I was told I was paying this huge sixty dollars and change a month for fast internet service the first year and a half I had excede I never heard about nor was told about any data then these last six months have been hell, I just got my so called data back yesterday after being in data restriction for the better part of last month and the only thing I've done is re install some games I lost on my other computer that I had to stop using because of a Trojan virus which is just a scam and they are put on peoples computers by money hungry techs and virus protection orgs to keep people paying for so called protection. but if it costs me sixty bucks a month just to download a few damned games I lost my contract is up with you people and i'll be canceling with you as soon as I find another provider that has no affiliation or ties with excede internet.!!! If I had been told up front that I was paying this kind of money a month for this little bit of data and I even had been told about data I would have never gotten rid of my landline phone and would have kept my dial up service it was slow but still better than this rip off!

You were told up front how much data you would be getting. That was the name of the plans. On downloading the games, what size were these games? Almost all I've seen are BIG.

David, I don't recall you being present when I started with exede, for you to say I was told up front is a lie, I just wanted faster speed and I called exede and told the girl I was completely computer stupid, I never heard anything about data, nor knew anything about it, I thought the price was just for faster internet speeds from one month till the next, and no one told me anything or sent me any messages for the first year and a half of my contract about data usage, then the last six months of my contract I start getting these messages about time to watch my usage, so don't tell me what I was told up front unless you were there, and you weren't.

It is unfortunate that occasionally a salesperson fails to give full disclosure as required by Exede but the customer has to accept some responsibility not to ever take ANY salesperson's word without doing some checking. I am amazed at how many customers do not read the contracts they sign. The contract would include all the specifics of what you are signing up for.

Hi Mary,  I'm not sure how the data information was not explained. It is our process to go over the plans when the service is purchased. If you send me your account and contact information, we can go over everything in detail.  Please send to exedelistens@viasat.com.  Thanks

I got this connected about two years ago, and I have no way to send this info to you. I just spoke to a young lady on the phone and had never heard of data until about six months ago. I was told for faster internet in would cost me around fifty a month nothing mentioned about data, and then there's the ten bucks that goes for the satellite dish outside, that's it.

I'm disabled, I enjoy coming online to read news and sometimes visit friends on facebook, and check my mail for my Netflix account, but that's about all I normally do and I'm about to cancel with Netflix and my friends will understand, cause I'm too poor and not ashamed of it to pay these kinds of prices just to do these minor things.

We pay $60 something per month, data used to last one month but now it seems to be gone in two weeks. Wildblue was helpful, they would check to see where the usage was going if I asked yhem

You can log in and check your usage, ask and they wil help you with that, I typed up a sheet with the log in information and keep it by my computer so I don't have to try to remember all the passwords, every computer site seems to have passwords that are suggested you change every once in awhile. You really don't want dial up, it ties up your telephone line as you know

I don't ever have anyone call me and I don't call anyone so my phone line being tied up wouldn't bother me, I don't have a land line anymore anyway. I got my new data on the 4th and was told I had used 70 percent the next day, I got a Trojan virus on my other computer and I took it down and connected this older one and started reinstalling some of my games from big fish, but if downloading five or six silly games uses most of my data then exede or any internet isn't worth having as far as I'm concerned, almost sixty dollars worth of data to download a few silly games that didn't cost that much to begin with.

Mary,

Based on everything you've stated, it's not surprising that you've incurred a substantial data hit dependent upon the timing of these events.

Contracting a virus could certainly incur a a hit - many will use your data behind the scenes.

When connecting the older computer, it's entirely possible and likely that it caught up on alot of automatic updates also.

As has been noted, games are huge regardless of their actual cost. A quick peek at Big Fish shows the ones I checked at .5GB or much larger - re-downloading them will result in a big hit.

Add all of those and it's easy to use up 70% of a 10GB plan. By now, the damage has been done and you'll need to either buy more or make use of the free zone period for your specific plan.

Even the few typical uses you mention have some data usage gotchas - best to address those now before your next cycle to minimize any further damage.

I was told that If I move I would have to start a new 2 year contract. Thats not fair! And I have to get the lil box off the dish just to save $30, if not they will charge me to get the box. It's too damn much for internet in the first place....I like to help new buisnesses as much as possible, but Exude after this you'er going to lose most of your customers... I'm one of them!!

Actually it's a $300 charge for failing to return the equipment (modem and the TRIA attached to the dish itself). Is it worth that much? Probably not, but it does have some residual value to ViaSat in terms of refurbishment. It's more that it's a steep charge to encourage/ensure the return and easy to avoid. Hopefully, moving is not considered a normal early termination that requires paying the early termination fees for remaining months of your contract.

If moving within the same Exede service area, contact whoever installed for you - there may be other options available to you that are more agreeable. At the same time you may be moving to an area that has better options available for internet service so you should check that out ahead of time.

When I get ready to cancel with exede and I will, you put this equipment in and you can come and take it back, I'm disabled and not able to get anything back to you and I won't be paying you or anyone $300 dollars for this stuff, but I'm not trying to keep anything that belongs to you people. If you installed it when I cancel you are more than welcome to come and un install it.

You are apparently under the mistaken impression that I work for ViaSat - I don't nor am I an installer. Good luck.

I always get that impression when I get an email from someone talking about how much it will cost me if I don't return equipment.

Clearly you don't understand how this public forum works.

The reply you're referring to was in response to McCoy Carolyn above not you.
Any emails you are receiving are coming from the notifications of changes or posts that you automatically receive as a result of your profile setting established here and are not being sent by anyone here. Modify your profile to turn off notifications.

As noted in my actual reply to you you're problems appear to have been triggered by your contracting a virus - the responsibility for that rests with you and the virus author.

P.S. I can see where receipt of notification emails would be disconcerting to some. Perhaps ViaSat and/or GetSatisfaction should make it so the default id for people to not receive notifications unless they explicitly opt in.
