I want to network two computers to share the internet connection. Will an Ethernet switch alone be enough to do this?

I don't want a router unless it is necessary to facilitate this request. I am not computer savvy, Don't have a local source of information, need guidance.

Under normal circumstances yes you usually have to have a router to do that..now that being said I don't know how many Ip addresses ViaSats modem will give out. I don't know if you can just use a switch attached to their router or not I haven't tried it to see. That all depends on if the modem only gives out one address or if it can give out multiple

William, I did it here while my router was down. I had no problems with it at all. But then again I only ran it that way for three days. Just make sure you have all of them plugged in right.

I had wondered about that before just out of idle curiosity, but I wasn't curious enough to hook a switch up to see. :-)

Were you able to get everything networked and working or did you still need me to test it? Sorry been busy and forgot but I do have a switch and can test it if needed.

Thanks for your interest. I was finally able to get the internet connection to work. The file sharing is not working but is far less important to me. I wish you and all that have responded well. Thanks again.
