yea I have had data drainage past few days simply using 1 site with strictly words on it, so I let the modem sit idle with everything off and  unplugged then waited about 30mins and unplugged it. checked it using my phone and alot of data has been consumed. yes I know the routine I will send a email.

I think the site and content could sucker punch you on data. Things like streamed video and media, autoplay, ads all can add to a surprise

I had the computer off for a bout 2 weeks, when my data reset, I was still gone. returned home 5 days after reset. and I had already used up this months data. The only thing connected to the system was Directv. this internet access is useless!!!

Which is precisely why everyone recommends against allowing DirecTV or Dish having access to your home network on a severely capped data plan regardless of ISP - neither satellite TV provider makes it clear exactly what activities use the internet connection beyond Video OnDemand and other interactive functions and there's some speculation that one or the other (perhaps both) favor delivering receiver updates, programing guides, etc. over an internet connection if made available.

The best course of action is to simply not allow either to have internet access and rely only on those things that can be provided off their satellite.

P.S. With regard to other devices having internet access, as long as they are on they are capable of consuming data regardless of whether you are actively using them or not unless they are in a sleep state (with no auto wake settings up enabled) or full hibernation state - don't even have to be logged in with username and password for that to occur.
