I took the plunge and got a Windows 10 system

So I finally got a laptop with Windows 10. But I got Windows 10 Pro, which is a much more robust OS compared to what Microsoft offered "free" a while back.

So of course the first thing I did was get in policy editor to control the updates. I was surprised there was an option to set a "download" zone time for updates, which is a good feature for those that still have a free zone.

It's too bad Microsoft couldn't add some of this basic functionality for the basic Windows 10 users, but they didnt.

Anyhow, time will tell what I think of Windows 10. I know one thing. System updates won't happen until I am traveling and on somebody else's internet.

And if anybody has any other suggestions on what I should disable, I would welcome feedback.

If you're connected via wifi be sure to set that connection to Metered.

Got it! Thanks Andy. I remember the same with my Android device.. Incidently, that device didnt update to Oreo until I was at a hotel the other night. So metered was working!

I am at the end of my data cycle and powering more downloads tonight. Got to "stack up" as Stephen would say.

I don't even worry about using a metered connection anymore with my Freedom plan and it hasn't been an issue. Back when I was on the Classic plan with only 10GB of data and the LNFZ I kept my Windows 10 machines set to metered and only did the updates during the free zone.

Be sure to turn off delivery optimization or your internet connection will be used to send updates to other PCs.

you cannot completely block updates anymore not even on Pro. Critical updates will still download even if you set your connection to metered. Just a heads up
