Excede said its on their end & its bein fixed but I too am losing data & yes I leave my router unplugged, noone knows, passcode, i live by myself & only download at freezone times. Rarely ever use during day & if i do its just email or checking reg web pages. Exede told me they are in the phases of fixing it they said the gateway beam I'm on needs a patch. I had 20gb unplugged router woke up to 12gb by next day i reached my limit. I used my internet this month total of 4 times. To check my email, check my usage data & to look one thing up on a webpage. I too have felt like Exede doesn't care. I wasn't going to even post after i saw what you did to that girl who was trying to get help for same issue. But I have same dang thing happening & was also never called or emailed back. The first few times i called Ecede i too was talked down to . When they said I don't believe you thats calling me a liar . Exede says i was downloading from 1pm-4am straight. Impossible. I work & router was unplugged . Spoke to someone yesterday about the patch that Julie Kat was talking about & yupp she was right i too am on one of the core node gateway beams that need to be patched. You guys owe her an apology. If it wasn't for her I wouldn't have that & i would be still arguing with Exede. Even during freezone its been so slow I have given up. So no Exede doesn't care aboit its customers & I don't understand how this Exede forum u say u wanna help people but then you treat them like garbage when they have a problem. This isn't middle school it's a forum & how the moderators just let it go on inexcusable. Im sure you will now say I'm crazy too bla bla bla . Go ahead just thought I'd let you know she was right & thanks to her I'm getting all my data back.

The person originating this story was in beam 328 and said it was the Salt Lake City corenode that needed to be patched.  There are several of us on this forum that I am aware of that use the SLC node and have not had a data issue, so feel free to draw your own conclusions.

There are some people on this forum that do need to stop talking down to people and assuming this can't happen.  So far we have  had good luck on this plan but my defenses are always up and I watch the data like a hawk.  We had a bad experience a few years back with Wild Blue so I know data can go without explanation and also that their customer service is horrible. (Outside of the excellent helpers on this board which so far I have had good experience with).  The only reason we went with Exede was the Evolution plan was more workable than anything Hughes was offering when we were forced to move and lost out WISP provider.  While there are a lot of times the data loss can be traced to a funky thing with the users computer there are times when its on Exede's end so I am ALWAYS sympathetic to people once they have tried all the data saving tips and still feel they are losing data since I myself have had the experience in the past.

Jacqueline - Viasat/Exede has kept a shroud over their method for tracking data usage and without allowing an open explanation one can only surmise what failure mechanisms exist.  Given that, I have no doubt that data usage can be inaccurately reported in some cases.  I do think that the vast majority of cases are not a tracking error, but user naivete.   No one should be talking down to other users of this forum and especially those that are here claiming to be here to help.  Sometimes, the obvious errors in the "statement of fact" or even childlike spelling and grammatical structure invite discrediting the report.  Still, every forum user should be treated respectfully.

Well put JEP.  The point I want to make is, if someone arrives on the forum upset and spewing, its not going to help or diffuse the situation to spew back or suggest they are wrong.  I will raise my hand, I, like most of us, am guilty of retorts but in general I am trying to retrain myself to hold back and rethink, in fact I started to comment in a sarcastic manner in a recent incident then thought to myself, that isn't going to help anything so just didn't continue.

My husband likes to say "let the other guy be the jerk" and many times its true, you can diffuse a situation by agreeing with or at least relating to what they are feeling.  If someone is really upset about data use and spewing, if all of us would try to respond something like "I understand, that is so frustrating.  I am sure you have but did you get a chance to double check your update settings, etc as I recently had an unexplained data spike and then discovered a computer was not set correctly for updates"  This isn't perfect but what I would be trying to do here is first realize they are upset and sympathize, then ask about checking something in a way that  hopefully doesn't imply they are "stupid" by saying you are sure they already did such and such, but just in case you didn't.....  If they still react negatively after an attempt at a positive approach, then back off and let the moderators handle the situation.  Again, let the original poster be the jerk, and you be the nice guy.

And for "The Dude" my incident a few years back, yes, not only turned off but unplugged since my husband always worried about lightening he always unplugged everything if we were going to be gone for an extended time.

Hello Franki, thank you for your feedback. I am glad to hear you were able to talk with us and figure out that your beam is having work done on it to fix the data loss you've experienced. If you'd like to send your info to exedelistens@viasat.com, I'd be happy to make an adjustment to your account for the data you've missed. Thank you.

I would guess if I spent $150.00 for service I would keep an I on it. I just want to know why do you really need that much? Its just a question not a statement, just would like to know why people need that much. I have the minimum and happy as can be. I never watch my limit so I have no idea if I am being cheated or not. But I dont care, its fast enough for me even that I never reach my max, but I only check it when someone brings it up. Now yesterday, was the first time I ever needed some speed for a important download I had to have for a program I use. It said it would take 15 minutes to get, well I didnt have 15 minutes. I asked kindly for a little help, just so I could get that one file. I didnt look to see if I hit my cap, dont have the time to sit around and worry about it. I reliable Kimberly was able to get my speed up enough for me to get my file in a couple of minutes. So I must have been at my max. Thank you so much in time of need Kimberly.
