I think the time has come to give up.

Ive been hanging on a long time now hoping for better days.  Month after month my service gets worse.  Ive been on the Exede 12/10 plan for 6+ years because I REFUSE to pay for more data that is slow as snail excrement in winter.

I tried out TestMy.net as someone here suggested.  Its sickening!  Yes I am in restriction again.  Ive been restricted many times over the years and Im used to it, but it just keeps getting worse and worse.  A year ago changes were made and my restricted speed dropped below 1 Mbps.  My internet was painfully slow and frequently pages timed out.  NOT THIS WEEK!  My internet simply freezes and WONT DO ANYTHING!  When I can get a speed check OMG!  Friday evening, 67 Kbps.  Saturday evening  37 Kbps.  Now I am not even getting 0.1 Mbps!  The same as we will get being "prioritized" on any other plan.

Yes, buying more data will fix my restriction issue, but honestly, when the only trouble free high speed internet I get now is 5 hours a day from midnight to 5AM during my LNFZ, why bother?  Pay 2 or 3 times more a month for the same 1 - 7 Mbps 24/7 and everything I do at night uses data now.  It just doesnt make sense.

I have long said if I needed to upgrade my plan, it would NOT BE HERE!  And I feel the time has come.  Hughesnet may be no better, but it CERTAINLY CANT BE WORSE!  The wife and I have been intensely discussing it this weekend and getting all the info we can from HN.  We think we are to the point of saying we are DONE and making the jump.  If its no better, hopefully a better alternative will be available in 2 years when our contract runs out.  We are simply sick of dealing with Viasat!

Have you logged in to your Admin portal & looked at the plans currently available to you?

Liberty plans don't hurt quite as bad when over allowance, if available for you

The "plan" is only part of it as I said.  My area is extremely congested with no dedicated beam on VS1 and now due to the antenna issue on VS2 (?) it has no coverage here either.

All the plans offered here are still limited to 12 Mbps which I NEVER see outside my LNFZ, even the "unlimited" they are offering again (it comes and goes) for 3X what I pay now.  Yea, its more data, but the same lousy performance on the outer fringes of the same disgustingly congested VS1 beam.

Hughesnet has a decent plan for our area Ron. And I cant imagine the beam being as awful.

My speeds hover around 6 to 8 Mbps.

Still, low latency and no buffering when streaming.  It does the job for me and I save money.

Will Seemore as far as satellite vs satellite YES they are equally as bad, but given the number of subscribers here in rural Appalachia and the fact Viasat has such horrible  coverage here its a HUGE difference.

2021 is and isnt a long time away, that is when my contract would end if I sign up now.  Viasat is supposed to put another bird up, Hughes is supposed to put another bird up, they could build a cell tower next door, or many companies hope to start low orbit service in the next 12 - 18 months.  Its the technology age, a LOT can happen in 2 years.  I try to remain customer loyal, but Viasat has shown me no loyalty.  Im sick of paying for promises, especially broken ones.

If Hughesnet allows me to sit at my computer at 5PM and GET ONLINE, its better than what I have now and I gotta take care of ME!  Ive suffered long enough and only recently have they even acknowledged the problem, or explained in any manner why our internet only works "sometimes," there has been NO COMPENSATION of any sort and not even an apology!

I dont see the speeds others are getting, and I dont have the accessibility others have and Viasats answer to it all is "Oh well, heres your bill."  Its just gotten old.

I came to that same conclusion and moved to a fixed wireless plan and am happy so far.

Sadly there is no viable phone signal here.   If we go upstairs to the south facing window we can pick up 3 or 4 bars now.  7 years ago when we moved in there was NOTHING!  They are putting up new towers in this area all the time just waiting on one that serves us better.

3 or 4 bats is really good. A fixed LTE antenna and you would be in business. Of course, there isnt really a good wireless plan available right now.
