Sporadic web outages

I think my Exede internet is maybe starting to mess up again. Five months ago I had a bad modem that needed replacing, but I don't know what the problem is now. For the past week I have been randomly losing connection. It does it at different times of the day, but it always connects after a few minutes. It isn't doing anything like it did five months ago when it would be out for hours and wouldn't connect without me unplugging it and back in. Right now it isn't too much of a hassle losing a connection once or twice a day for a few minutes, but I'm wondering if it may be leading to bigger problem.

Could possibly be your router. Routers that go bad usually drop signal and reconnect. The way to check would be to hard wire steaight from the viasat modem to your laptop/desktop.
Routers that have issues always give the Exede product a bad rap, but it doesn't have anything to do with the internet, just your connection to the router.
Belkin and Linksys routers seem to have the most problems. Some installing companies carry routers that have been optimized for Exede, but off the shelf routers that seem to work best with Exede are the net gear brand. Hope that helps.

I have a Netgear router that I bought five months ago when I had my first problem. On the modem status page the cable attenuation number jumps up from 5.5 when connected to 15 to 25 when its disconnected. The other numbers seem to stay the same.

We have been using DLINK routers for over a year with zero problems for our customers. But I agree with Roger stay away from Belkin, Linksys, and Cisco routers.

Hello Matt, I can understand the frustration with recurring intermittent connectivity. We certainly don’t want you to have to go through this for long periods at a time. I would suggest to please give our customer care line a call at 1-855-463-9333. An agent would be happy to review your account to verify weather or not this is a modem problem or possibly an issue related to your router. Thank you

I had that happen to me a while ago. Would be out for several minutes then come back on. Didn't happen every day or anything so I'm wondering if it could be something in atmospheric thing. Hasn't happen lately. I timed it the last time it happened. 3 minutes down and then everything right back to normal. Never restarted anything. When came back everything running good. Good speeds.

The past couple days I've hardly been home to see if it has messed up anymore. I have a Netgear N600 router the one Exede recommends on their website. The router had a free system app. The other day when I posted I checked it when the modem disconnected and the app made me reenter my password and acted kinda wierd. I will connect it directly to my desktop to if I have any more problems to figure out which one is having problems my modem or router. But today (Tuesday) I've had a connection I think all day so I believe it may be something router related.

I updated the firmware on my router and that seemed to solve the majority of the problem. But the past few days I've been checking the modem status page and it says I've only been connected a day. Then the next day I check it again it says I've been connected about 16 hours. So apparently I'm still losing connection. Then today it loses connection again for about 5 minutes.

Matt - Wonder where you are located?  Here in Beam 329 in Virginia we are losing the Internet almost daily, sometimes twice a day.  Usually only for a couple of minutes.  I have confirmed this with one other local so it seems to be "them", not "us".  This may be your problem also.  I don't know that first tier customer service is aware of this.

I was wondering the same thing, JEP. I live in northeast Arkansas about 50 miles northwest of Memphis, TN. I don't know what beam I'm on. I have mostly farm land surrounding me. Most people in the area have satellite tv but there are a few that have Exede. So far today it has disconnected twice I know of.

Over the past week I've been disconnected a few times. I thought it was my router at first but then I thought it was Exede. The other day on the 14th I woke up in the middle of the morning at 2:05am and saw my internet was disconnected. So I checked the modem page, and it was staying at the scanning step and Rx SNR was at 3.0dB. I waited to see if it was going connect then at 2:41am I connected straight to my desktop. I got a connection within a couple minutes. So I thought it was my router. But then today the 17th at 8:18am it happened again so I did the same thing. This time plugging it straight to my desktop didn't work. So for the first time I unplugged the modem and got a connection. So at this point I'm not sure what the problem is.
