De Leon, I have the same plan, and it is $49.99 per month, but you also have to pay $9.99 a month (I think that is the amount) for  the equipment rental.  There is also an option to prepay your equipment charges for the length of the contract (2 yrs) for which you get something like a $40 discount for equipment charges over the life of your contract. (and that way of course you won't be paying those equipment rental charges every month) In addition to the charge for basic service, plus the equipment charge, there are monthly taxes added on.
You can go online and view your bill in detail by going to www.myexede.net/currentbill   You need to know your exede username and password to connect there, so if you have any problem getting in to the site, you can call customer service for assistance.
(And in case you are wondering, you can't buy the equipment instead of renting as this option isn't offered by Exede (or by Hughesnet, another satellite internet provider)

In addition, local and state taxes may be applicable and check to see if the first month was prorated based on billing date vs. install/activation date.

Hi Mary, in regards to your package type, our champion LorrieL is correct. The base price for your plan may be $49.99 but you also have to consider your equipment lease along with tax’s will be included in your total. You have the option of  either view your bill through your customer portal at Myexede.net or I would be more than happy to give you a description of your most current invoice. Please send your account and contact information to exedelistens@viasat.com. Thank you

Trying to figure out why equipment leasing as the only option is even legal, I thought when Ma Bell was broke up they made them give that up as you pay many times over what the equipment is worth.  As far as price my contract is up and I'm likely to move to Hughes, twice the data - I'm on the 25G plan -  for $60 a month less and faster speeds.  Why should anyone stay with Exede if they aren't going to be competitive.

By all means go to HughesNet, they do NOT have faster speeds and they do NOT have a LNFZ. Say you get a 100GB plan that is 50GB for 8am-2am and 50GB for 2am-8am

Duckman, Hughesnet also charges you an equipment rental fee. Enjoy the venture with Hughes.

But Craig, Exede IS competitive with HUGHES... I should know since I discontinued Hughes last August so I could sign up for exede.  Not everyone wants or can afford the exact plan you can. When thinking about these things you need to think about the big picture, not just your own situation.  Not to mention that the exact plan details offered by each company are constantly changing.  At the time I was making my choice between these 2  cos.   I knew I wanted the cheapest plan from the provider who'd offer me the most for that money. And that was exede.  Exede's cheapest classic pLAn is cheaper than Hughes's cheapest plan. Back when I was making my decision, Exede's cheapest plan was a full $10 a month cheaper.  I get the full 12 mbs from exede whereas  with Hughes it would have been slower speeds on the cheapest plan.  Hughes has no more LNFZ anymore and Exede does--very important on the lower allowance.  Once I had reviewed all the details comparing Hughes to Exede, there was no question Exede is the better/cheaper plan for me.
Re: what you said about ma bell and no equipment leasing for phone cos--Exede is not a phone co.  For whatever reasons it is standard for Exede to offer equipment rental with no option for buying equipment instead and until very recently this was also standard with Hughes --i just saw something online that says you can now choose to buy your hughes equipment..so I wouldn't be surprised if Exede comes up with something similar before too long. These things go back and forth between competitors, so all you can do is find out the facts at the time you need to choose and pick what is best for you. A month later, which one is best for you might change again. That's business.  and another reason they want those contracts.
anyway, you may not know it but you DO own the Exede disk and  pole if you have one.  when you disconnect they will want the TRIA and modem back, but you keep the disk and pole.  whether you want to or not. :-)  (Just kidding, I know that isn't what you care about.)

Geez, calm down, do you work for Exede?  Hughes advertises 15 Mbps, Exede is 12 Mbps.  In my situation 50GB during normal hours and 50GB during early morning is plenty.  The LNFZ might work for some folks that want to be up between midnight and 5am, but I've never used 50GB during the LNFZ a couple of movie downloads a month at most and a Apple update now and then, but I have gone over my 25GB limit quite a few times and had to buy another 4 or 5GB to make it through the month which is another $50, so for 30GB during normal hours I'd spend $180 for the month, with Hughes it would be $80, 50GB of data during normal hours with Exede would be $380, with Hughes it would still be $80.  The other thing is that when the new satellite went up Wildblue/Exede promoted that we would get more data, faster speeds at lower costs.  What I actually got was higher speeds, less data and higher costs, my equivalent 25 GB of data with Wildblue went from $80 to $130 on Exede. I'd love to just stay with Exede, but at some point the cost differential is out of line to the point they aren't competitive. In addition I get tired of not being treated as a loyal customer, if you're a new customer you're treated like a king, new customers were getting 50GB a month while the loyal customers got squat.  When are companies going to start rewarding me for hanging around?  The airlines figured that game out long ago, cheaper to keep a loyal customer and provide frequent flier benefits than to continually chase new money around.

Steve, until a few minutes ago I also thought Hughes was still only renting equipment, but then I saw this:

duckman--when I signed up for Exede/the cheapest hughes plan would have given me only 10, while with all the exede plans you get the highest avail. exede speeds (12)-regardless of what you pay per month.
You seem to have some difficulty in telling the difference between someone (me) talking about facts and someone who works for exede.  If hughes cheapest plan, the one I can afford, had been better than exede's I would still be with Hughes.  I like facts--you were leaving those out when you said Exede wasn't competitive with hughes as if that was across the board.
If you can meet your internet needs better with the hughes plan you can afford , of course you should switch to Hughes--why wouldn't you?--I would too.   But when you incorrectly imply this is true for all people who want satellite internet, I am going to say that is wrong.  because it is.
btw, you have to admit, saying something like "geez calm down do you work for exede?" is a kinda rude and disrespectful way of saying you didn't like what I said.  Is that really the best you can do in your internet communications?  A little more civility from you would be nice. Somehow I managed to disagree with you without disrespecting you at all.  It isn't hard at all.

Not sure what plans you see but for my area (NC) the second largest plan is 10/2 for speed and only 15GB for 8am-2am and 50 over night, their biggest plan is 20GB with 50over night and 15/2 speeds.

Compared to Exede you get 12/3 advertised speed (which most get more) and you said you have 25GB for 5am to midnight and unlimited access from midnight to 5am and from what I see they are the same price.

So maybe its just me but Exede seams to come out ahead on this one.

I didn't know that Hughes recently offered the option to buy the equipment, although a bit pricey. It comes out to the equivalent of 40 months of rental though.

Duckman, I do not work for ViaSat, Exede, or in fact anyone. If Hughes works out better for your internet needs, then go with them. I myself am very happy with the Exede service I have been getting for over 3 years, and th Wildblue service before that. It is great to be able to choose which internet provider works best for us.

It looks like that $400 price is partly for the install too as its not free on that option.

RE: not seeing the kind of numbers on hughes plan that Duckman describes....it just occurred to me.  Maybe he works for Hughes and is trying to get exede customers to switch by giving bogus facts?
Just kidding but I get  tired of people saying "you must work for exede".  Just another rude way to try to put down what someone is saying.

plus I stream way more every month than Duckman describes and I have never gone over my 10gb/month thanks to the late night free zone.  He says he has to buy more data, but I never do, even with 15 gb less than he has and doing more streaming than he does.  That's what I don't like about the new hughes thing with 2 sets of allowance data numbers for different parts of the day--it confuses some people and they don't realize how much better they might do with  LNFZ.

If nothing else, this thread should serve as an example for the Exede moderators as to why they should exercise better discretion in modifying thread titles (particularly when the original post consists only of a title).

The original title was along the lines of I was told my plan was $49 per month - why am I paying $68...

The change in title introduced a new question and topic.

You are right--the first title sounds nothing like the second.  Are you sure it was exede who changed the title and not the initiator of the discussion?  Why would they do that in this case? The question was specific, clear and answerable the way it originally appeared.
Funny thing is, I don't think we answered the question of "why can't prices be lower" either--we talked a lot about figuring out which of 2 competitors has the better deal, and details of Hughes plans vs Exede.
I wonder why prices CAN'T be lower?
No, don't answer that, please!  that was just a joke.
I do wonder why high speed internet can't be free to all citizens though.  With unlimited data allowances for all.  Clearly we are entitled to have that.

I see no way for me to modify the title of posts created by myself. In the past, moderators have admitted to modifying titles which are provocative in nature.

As for why not free to all and entitlement? I'm not even going there - that would in fact be a provocative discussion better suited elsewhere and probably involve lot's of yelling, screaming and caps lock on ;)
