I've got A LOT of Lag with my games. I play on my laptop on the gaming platform "Steam", and I've noticed that I lag hard on all of my games. I mostly play "Dead by Daylight" and "Friday The 13th: The Game", and when I'm in a lobby, it shows me just how much my Ping is. The normal Ping levels are under 50, but mine is over 800. Why is it so laggy and why is my ping so high? Is there any way to fix this?? I would really like to know. And before you ask, no I don't have anything on or downloading in the background. If anything, the one thing I have on in the background while I'm gaming is Discord so I can talk with my friends.

It's because your ground-based Internet connection (Steam) found it's way to the ViaSat space port serving your satellite beam on the regular paths of the Internet, (that alone took time), went out 22,300 miles to the satellite, and 22,300 back to your house, went 22,300 miles back up to the satellite, 22,300 miles back to the space port, re-entered the ground based internet system, and finally arrived at it's final destination.  Speed of the signal: 186,000 miles per second at best.  The signal went 89200 miles just through the air alone for a ping at exede to get to you and back.  Expect a best-case ping of about 660 ms.  Feel lucky, my beam's space port is in Hawaii but enters the actual ground-based internet near Portland Oregon.  There's a few thousand extra miles for me to wait on.

Craig is right.  With satellite internet, you are going to have high latency.  It is just physics.  Now, I have Steam too....and I download games during the Free Zone (which is great for those 40+ GB games).  But unlike you, I don't play online games.  Even with the new satellite you will still have high latency.  One thing perhaps you could do, if you have 4G service, use Exede to download the games, but use 4G to play the games.  With 4G, you won't have the latency issues, and just playing online won't suck up a lot of data.  I wish I had a better solution for you, but unfortunately, high latency is one drawback that will be inherit with satellite internet for the foreseeable future.

Hello  inuyasha_tammer_101   ,Exede internet has latency due to the signals that travel to and from our satellites. Please see the links below on game reviews with Exede Satellite Internet.
