Mindy, if you are qualified for free installation, nothing the day of install. They will need to pre-authorize your billing card for 60.00 which usually happens the next day, or later the day of install and, that is immediately refunded then, in a few days, you will be billed for your first month of service, plus the few days you had service before the billing date. You do pay in advance for service so, those few days before billing have to be prorated and added to your first bill.

Installers may charge extra for non standard installations, like having to mount the dish on a pole rather than on your house and, if that's the case, you would pay that at the time of install.

It cost me $150.00 for install, $49.99 processing fee, and 3 days later $80.00, The processing fee was never mentioned and I don't see how 150.00 didn't cover all of that!! Buyer beware, wish I never signed up!!

I was told that too back when I got mine but installers find some excuse to get extra for the install mine said I had to have a pole and I told him I had one already in ground with concrete he said it had to be his since it was the type he was required to use. *cough bullcrap* heck the pole I had from a previous sat install was a heavier built pole then the cheap thin one he put in ......everyone in this area I have talked to has had to pay .....so what does a customer do in this case? So best to let customers know there could be a cost .......your company really needs to start checking out your installers they are the weak link in your company .....I am not saying ALL installers but there is some that are just not being very honest and not doing good installs

SonyaA,

Installers shouldn't charge for any standard installations.  This usually includes pole mounts, and cable trenching up to 20 ft.

You can contact Customer Care at 866-945-3258, or email us at ExedeListens@viasat.com, to place a complaint on the technician.  Make sure to have your account information (account number, MAC address, phone number) handy so we can look you up!

Here too for NEW pole mounts, depending on who you get for the install. Some charge more than others for pole, concrete, extra cable, and labor to set pols and bury cable but, in this area pole usually needs to be  30+ feet from house due to trees and, trenching means root busting and, chiseling through clay that, unless it's rained recently, is nearly as hard as concrete.

I don't blame the guys for charging extra to deal with having to do a pole mount here - it's a pain in the rear. (DTV charged for pole as well) (neighbor a couple of years ago paid 56.00 for a free install 49+taxes on the pole mount with labor. Took the installer 3 hours to do the install due to difficulty trenching so, more than reasonable if you ask me.)

They used the wiring I had left from Hughesnet, charged me $150.00 for install, and $49.99 processing fee then 3 days later $80.00 for first bill. I should have just stayed with Hughesnet!!! So upset!!

Yea that could be a problem. Hughesnet wiring might not be up to spec. Might be a reason system was so bad.

Install fees vary by location, it is also $150 for a simple install at my location. Problem with sloppy installs is due to the fact the techs don't work for Viasat and get a flat fee for a visit for their time. When 15 minutes pays the same as 4 hours that can lead to people taking short cuts.
