If a plan is listed as "Up to 25 Mbps", it would probably include the Wi-Fi modem..  The older modem only supported 12 Mbps.  The Wi-Fi modem can also be used on the 12 Mbps plans. Viasat-2 plans will probably show up as 50 Mbps or 100 Mbps. You really won't gain much if you upgrade to the SB2+ (wi-fi) modem. At times, I saw speed over 20 Mbps when I had the older modem. And, It will cost an extra $5 a month for the wi-fi upgrade.  Most people that have the SB2+ disable the built in wi-fi and use their own external wi-fi router.

I agree. Why exactly do you want the Wi-Fi modem? It's router is inferior to many higher end routers on the market.

Now if you upgrade to Viasat-2, that modem is superior to the old Viasat-1 Wi-Fi modem in many ways.

I'm on the Silver 150 plan and got the Wifi modem but after having dropped wifi and poor range I disabled the wifi and used my own external Wifi modem.

Exactly. Now I can't speak for the Viasat-2 modem, but a high-end, extended range router is going to be superior to the Wi-Fi enabled Viasat-1 modem.
