How do you find out what beam you are on or if there will be an update or bigger plan offered?

I have a 50/25 plan currently, that honestly runs out 2 days after it renews.  Can you tell me if there will be any updates in my area?  I could update to a 50/50 plan but that will just give me 2 more days for 25 dollars more a month.  This satellite things is so hard compared to the unlimited DSL plan that I had when I lived in the city UGH, 4 people including 2 teenagers... we need unlimited LOL

Yes it is difficult but if you are burning through that much data in two days, your usage habits need to be modified in some fashion.

I doubt even Viasat-2 plans are going to allow you to burn that much data in a month.

Hang in there.  ViaSat-2 is only a few months away from operation.  It will  have plans that rival anything ever offered via satellite before. Exede will offer plans that include 100Mbps and data allowances that may seem unlikely to be used up in just one month.

Exede will be offering some pricey plans designed to increase the income per subscriber and those plans will be attractive, that is to say, people will happily spend more to get those plans simply because it will supply all the data they need to do what they want.

Exede is being tight-lipped right now about the new plans exact details, probably because they have not completed formulations of what the various plans will consist of.  The one thing that is certain though is  that income per subscriber must increase or Exede will die, and it's going to take some really cool plans to get people to spend that extra money.  Lucky for us, ViaSat-2 will have the capacity to deliver.

Griping people's condemnation without investigation runs rampet here. People accuse Exede of being rip-off artist and outright thieves.  They think their situation or data consumption habit should be subsidized by Exede.  They place fault upon Exede when their data runs out for the month when they have no idea what used it up and haven't done anything to learn how to prevent waste (but it's still Exede's fault).  They mis-use the equipment such as un-plugging the modem for days or weeks at a time and then accuse Exede of stealing their data when the modem couldn't update to reflect an accurate total. Then there's people that know where the data is going but it's just too much hassle to remedy so It's still Exede's fault, Try clicking HERE for an example.  There's more but you might get the point.

Some people come here questioning how their data was used up so quickly, without placing blame on Exede, and seek answers on how to conserve. They are greeted with help and suggestions that work.

I won't patronize people that have an attitude that the world's woes are Exede's fault, or that Exede has bigger data plans they can't afford.  We purchase goods and services according to what we can afford, it's called our standard of living.  I don't believe in class envy.  There will always be someone that has it better than me and others that have it worse but I won't seek sympathy because I'm not on top.

I'll tell the emperor that he has no clothes and I'll tell people they're idiots when they make ignorant accusations against Exede.

Take notice that I am not a "Champion," but I will defend Exede when falsehoods are splattered here against Exede/ViaSat.  I will also put Exede 'front row and center' when something is amiss, only after a thorough investigation, sometimes costing me considerable money to substantiate.

I really  get annoyed by people that subscribe to Exede and have unreasonable expections of what the service should include and then lash out at Exede because they don't "have it made" now that they finally got the Internet at home (wow, it's limited - but why?).

I considered your observations and find them poorly researched.

Does this answer your question?

NO.....  but I'm certainly not surprised by your response.

ps no research is required... all one has to do is read your posts. If "people" annoy you so much why don't you stop reading their posts. Your comments are not only divisive, they are inappropriate, unproductive and contribute nothing to the sense of community on this site. There are real people, with real problems here genuinely trying to get help. Your excessive cynicism and almost obsessive insistence to defend Exede and espouse your opinions and personal feelings borders on psychosis. But of course, this is America and you are completely entitled to your first amendment rights. Certainly take the opportunity to "have the last word" here. Anything further that I have to say would be a waste of both our time and energy.

I think I covered that.  I've actually posted links to information about the single biggest data drain a person can unknowingly experience and it included a remedy. It was HERE

People that ask questions get answers.  People that blindly attack Exede might hear from me since I'm not muzzled by being an endorsed 'Champion' or employee. I'll say the things they might want to, but can't.

"Live long and prosper." I'm trying to....  you too. I followed your link HERE and followed the additional links and finally got to the instructions on how to disable the MS feature that uses my computer to help distribute updates and disabled it. Had to try several methods before I found one that agreed with the info on my SETTINGS pages.....  don't you just love Windows?? (both rhetorical and sarcastic) I'm on a 12 meg plan and I'm always running out. Maybe this will help.

Pattie, give it a week or two and you'll probably find one of the new plans may be more to your liking. Also, read my thread on Tips to Control Data Usage. I believe you will find if you have EVERYONE in the house do the things I suggest it will help out quite a bit....not totally solve but it WILL help. You've got 6 people in your house using smart devices, if their auto downloads and auto updates is turned on then you are trying to paddle up a swift current with the wrong end of the oar in the water.

Andy's correct. Your Beam 358 area should have a new plan offering in the next week or so. Just go on myexede.net next weekend or so and you can see what plans are available for you to upgrade to.

@Derrick

If you are in Aptos, why haven't you checked out Cruzio? They serve Aptos.
If you can pick up one of their local hotspots, they are 100Mbps synchronous (upload and download) and free.  Their plans are all unlimited, for real.  The Velocity plan is pretty good for the typical residential internet.  I tried to get their service here where I am (mountains SE of San Jose) but was stopped in the permit process (I need to build a tower).

Thank you for the help.  I will keep a look out this week for hopefully a new plan. I don't mind paying for what we use, and I realize that we are crazy with using the internet.  The problem is that we live in a metal house with spray foam insulation, so the only way that we can get on the internet in the house on our phones are to use the wifi.  I will look into all the ways that you told me to conserve but I know what the things are that use it up... Netflix for one and probably all the updates on the phones too.. Thank again for the help

Yea I think Roku is a good option but that doesn't work for live events. Both Yahoo and Amazon had live football streaming events and I feel that is only going to grow in popularity. I know on my NFL Sunday Ticket there is also no control on the resolution of the streaming option which I have to use at times. Sad that these developers have no consideration for data limitations that customers like us have.

How do I determine what "beam" I am on?

Send your name and address in an email to exedelistens@Viasat.com and they should be able to help you out.

There is also a beam map that has been posted. If you are not on the edge of a beam you might be able to tell which beam you are on that way too. And once you know your beam, then you will also be able to determine your gateway.
