how do I find out if i have a contract i only signed a paper when the dish was installed

You always have a "contract" as long as you remain a subscriber - the customer agreement remains in force as long as you are subscribed to the service. You may cancel the agreement at any time; however, you will incur cancellation fees if doing so prior to the two year commitment; after two years the agreement continues on a month by month basis and you may cancel without penalty. Some equipment must be returned on cancellaction to avoid a fee for failure to return it. 

Call customer care at 855-463-9333 and they can tell you the exact date when your two year commitment expires or expired  (but roughly two years from the date you signed if you recall that).
