How can use 30GB's in 8 days?? I have never used that much data that fast since I've been with Exede. What kind of gimmick is this? I think we need a reset on our data. This kind of scam continues I will find another Provider!!

Do use a back-up service, like Carbonite, that is backing up your files?  If so, try to configure it so it only backs up during your free time.  It might be backing up photos, and lots of big files during prime time.

Knight Rider, that is not the case for all areas. My area south central PA (Zipcode 17360) only has Liberty plans available. (Liberty 10, Liberty 18 and Liberty 30)

Looks like the beam serving zipcode 17360 is nearing capacity, since the website says that Exede service MAY be available in your area, contact a local dealer.

I wish the Liberty plan was available in my area. It is a great plan, unless you do huge downloads regularly and need the Free Zone.

Yes, I believe it is nearing capacity as well. A few months ago I was emailing a local installer to get more details on Exede and the installation and they said I would still be able to sign up. I was interested in a Classic plan at the time then shortly after that they changed all plans for my area to Liberty.

I normally use around 50 GB a month total usage so I don't really think the Liberty plan will be good for me. I would only be able to afford the Liberty 10 plan being the Liberty 18 plan is $99.99 a month ( it paying that much for internet service)

I don't think they show that plan as an option on their website because it shows the same thing for me but I know it exists and was released with the liberty plans.

Yea, they have the essential plan in some areas. If it was in my area I do not think I would get it either. Bad enough to wait til 2 am as it is to do updates wouldn't want to wait til 3am.

There is no way, back-up files is eating up 30gb's of data. when I do back-up files I do it at my wife's work.. free wifi. If that was the case it would of ate up that data several  times over since I've been with excede.

No need for you to apologize, Sandy... it's not like you were given much to go on and providing specifics after the fact is of little practical use.

Thanks Sandy. Sorry,I came off that way. It just boggles my mind that much data could of been used. We don't stream Netflix or movies because we also have DirecTV. I use a Mac Pro and it isn't set to automatically update either on any updates. So, I'm really confused.

Mitch, make sure your DirecTV does not have access to the internet. If it does, it will download programs and on demand stuff, eating up data like crazy.

Hello Mitch, I have not received your information as of yet but from what your stating regarding usage and your Direct TV, I want to make sure you’re aware that If you use any video on demand content it actually has to be downloaded and If this is done during your metered hours, you'll see it consume your data usage.

Mitch, a small portion of the problem may be that webpages now use more bandwidth than they did when the limits were first set. But I still see problems where it miscalculates my usage. If you use a router that tallies up your usage, keep track of it and note the usage just before midnight. Then note it again at 5am (if you have the plan with the LNFZ) and subtract the amount during that period from the usage at midnight. Another thing is to get BitMeter and install it on all of your devices/computers. It will tally up your usage with an hourly report. You can then add it all up and compare it to Exede's usage meter. Same with the router-- if Exede is showing higher usage than your router and/or BitMeter, then screenshot your usage reports with date and time and send the info to Exede to report the miscalculation. They are usually pretty good about it. I've had them restore some of my bandwidth before when there were software problems.

If you have a wireless router, turn off your connection to the router from all of your devices when you don't intend to be actively using the internet. Make sure your router is password protected.

When you are actively using the internet, it helps to use adblock, adblock plus, flashblock, and programs that stop videos from autoloading in the background.

Go through some troubleshooting things first and make sure nothing is doing background downloading without your knowledge. Having the Bitmeter and router bandwidth tally can really help your case to prove any errors.

Since I keep reading how this is a problem with a lot of customers, and seems to be the practice of Exede, maybe the BBB, state attorney, Attorney General might want to know. If I can't get at least 20gbs back I'm seeking other help on this problem.

I had the SAME problem with Hughes, but not to that extent.

I ALWAYS have a PAID Antivirus running and NEVER open an attachment from anyone that I don't know BUT somehow ONE file got malware and was somehow gobbling up data through svchost. It CAN be normal; downloading updates, etc.

I use Net Balancer so I can see what programs are using data.

I used MalwareBytes to ferret out the culprit and as soon as that file was deleted the mysterious downloads about 300MB in a few hours, stopped!

Suggestion: Try MalwareBytes

I constantly had the problem with Hughes. It would say I was loading when my modem was unplugged.

Sometimes the modem can get glitched. Also, if you get disconnected and are trying to send data, it can keep trying and trying and when you get reconnected it sends the data all at once and can cause usage spikes (at least that is what tech support explained to me when I complained about my usage spiking during bad weather that kept knocking my connection out).

My HughesNet is an old plan, I have a daily usage limit with unlimited nightly usage. I like having daily and the unlimited nights which is the main reasons I have not switched to Exede or upgraded to Gen4 (and Gen4 having limited nightly usage is keeping me from upgrading also). Now Exede changed my area to all Liberty plans now sure about switching to them. Maybe I will wait for ViaSat2 to launch and see how the new plans are (hopefully they are more impressive then the original Exede and Gen4 plans)

Send an email to  exedelistens@viasat.com and include your contact and account information with a brief description of what you feel is an error.  You will be provided with a breakdown of where the data went and when.

Have you upgraded to Windows 10? By default, Windows 10 will use your internet connection send updates to other computers out on the Internet. Also, if you have multiple machines that are eligible for a Windows 10 upgrade, Microsoft has started to download the update ( which is 4 - 6 GB ) by default and if you multiply that by multiple machines, it can add up fast.

A large spike in data usage can be an indication that a computer on your network has been infected by a virus. I would do a scan on all your computers just to be safe.

Additionally, you can call Exede's customer care to get the same breakdown that Craig mentioned. You can find the customer care number at https://www.exede.com/contact-us-exede/.

Hi Mitch, I definitely understand your concerns and would hate to see you go because of this. Please allow us the opportunity to view your account details and check your usage categories to find out what could have possibly used your GB’s in such short amount of time, it could be various categories such as: storage, media, file sharing, communications etc. Please send your account and contact info to exedelistens@viasat.com so we can pinpoint your consumption. Thank you

Ok, Exede said I used a lot of data this weekend. Me and the wife bought 2 new iPhone 6S's this weekend and I thought the backup, updates, and the restoring apps was finished at the AT&T store apparently not. I wouldn't think that could eat 30gb's but maybe so. But they helped me out. So, in the future you might want to hangout at your local free wifi place like Barnes and Noble and make sure new phones, computers do their updates there. Sorry, for the rant. Thanks Exede!!
