Operating system updates, automatic application updates, autoplay videos on web ages, pre-loaded videos on web pages, excessive ads on web pages, web pages that abuse java script to preload data, malware, and more. Let me count the ways...

Even a 12 Mbps connection can use upwards of 5.4 GB per hour  if you give it a chance or allow something a chance to use it.

That says it all, if you'd like some suggestions on how to control that unwanted usage, just ask; but first, you'd need to tell us a little bit about your environment; however there are numerous conversations here that will assist you - it all starts with knowing exactly what's using your data without your knowledge.

P.S. Now that your meter has reset and your speeds have been presumably restored, those same data abusive web sites are going to detect the better speeds and respond by pushing even more unwanted data your way. Don't worry, they'll slow down once they've exhausted your data or you prevent them from exhausting it and then we can discuss poor speeds.

Device updates, Windows updates, and hour of streaming. A good third party router with traffic monitoring will tell you exactly how much and what used your data. Best investment that I ever made, works well to find those data ussers in a hurry and get them under control.

Prove it - show us, many of us are from Missouri or have lived there at one time or another. Alternately, contact customer support and they can provide you a categorized breakdown of what they see - it might give you a clue.

You may be correct. But you also maybe missing something. I routinely download videos of >2 gb from the cloud in 20 minutes. So your usage is not impossible. I am on the Liberty 12 plan with "up to 12 mbps".
So far, you have mentioned one measurement--Viasat's. It behooves you to find other non-Viasat measurements to help you decide if Viasat is correct or wrong.

Updates are evil. I turned off automatic updates on my work laptop, yet somehow Chome and Adobe Acrobat have both automatically updated.
