How can there be Data usage when no one is home

My data usage just reset two days ago and already my account shows 2.6 GB of data usage.  I do not understand how this can be happening, when there is no one home.  The only thing that connects to my router/internet are my personal computer and my iPad, which are both in my possession here in Dallas.  I live on a small dirt road, my closest neighbor is 1/4 mile away, so someone connecting to my connection is also not a likely possibility.

Going over my 25 GB data plan and being throttled down to turtle speeds has always been an issue since I signed up with Excede almost 2-years ago, but I sucked it up and dealt with it; until I have been gone and away from my home the last 38 days and still having issues with random data usage!

In the three years I've had Wikd Blue/Exede, I've heard about data disappearing but never experienced it myself.

Several times I've tested for data leakage and each time I've concluded it doesn't happen to me.

The next time you're going to be away for a weekend or more, test for leakage. Check your usage and they Turn your router off while you're gone. Check it while you're gone and when you return.

Until you test you're just whistling Dixie.

The modem isn't on, its been unplugged since the first of the month since I realized Data was disappearing, while no one is home between December 16 and January 1st.  It's unplugged now and still disappearing data!

Sherry, this does not sound right. Send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com explaining what is going on. The moderators will check into this and get back with you. Be sure to include your account number and phone number so they can identify your account. They cannot get this info from your profile on this forum.

Hello Sherry, the data that you’re seeing on your personal portal meter is the usage that was identified before your current bill cycle if your modem was unplugged. The Usage Meter is intended to be used as a guide to help you monitor your usage totals. It can take up to 24 hours to reflect updates. If your modem is currently offline, the Usage Meter will not update and may not display your correct "Current Service State. I would be more than happy to review your account and see how we can further assist with your data. Please send your account and contact info to exedelistens@viasat.com

Hi Sherry,
I sound like a broken record lol, but my solution works. I am on a small 10gig plan with 3 daughters and my wife and myself (so 5 people) and our data rarely runs out since I have implimented some simple and free solutions.
See my post near the bottom of this thread --> https://community.exede.com/exede/topics/excessive-data-loss
Hope this helps, PeAcE

Lots of phantom data usage in our household, and when I contact Exede about it, they say, "We have tools to help you identify how your data is being used." But when you ask them about it, no such tool exists, nor can they tell you how data is being used when every single device (including the modem) in your house is unplugged.

Pretty sure you can't be using data when your modem is unplugged.  There can however be latent data reporting that does not occur until you plug your modem back in.  The only way you can verify Exede data usage with your modem unplugged is to check your Exede data usage with another Internet provider such as Verizon, or use the WiFi at McDonalds or your work place.

Yep, have done all of that. Still used data. For example, the other day I bought an extra 1GB of data (we had gone over the cap, of course). As soon as the modem reset and the extra data showed up, I unplugged the modem. It stayed unplugged until the next day (about 25 hours later). I logged in from my phone, and that extra 1GB was used. LOL. This is a crazy service.
