How can I be sure LNFZ has started?

I have some large software updates coming up over the next few days, and of course I want to do them during LNFZ if at all possible.

I'm one of the people who has learned that I can't rely on LNFZ to start at midnight as promised. How can I be sure LNFZ has begun *before* I start these downloads? Can I force it to start by rebooting the modem? As countless people in these forums have already said, it's frustrating that the account management page doesn't have an LNFZ indicator.

Bill, there is no way to tell if the LNFZ has really started. Even rebooting your modem does not necessarily ensure the LNFZ has started.

We have been asking Exede for a positive indication for the LNFZ since it was first offered around 3 years ago. It appears they do not want to provide the indication.

It's based on your time zone. One thing to be aware of is if a download is initiated before the 12am start time it will not count towards late night free zone (same if it continues past the 5am end time).

Brad, what do you think is a safe interval after the scheduled start of LNFZ? I'm sure I've started a download or watched some videos after midnight and found when I checked my data the next morning that the data had counted against my allotment.

These downloads total about 2.5 GB, so I'm not at all inclined to take a chance that LNFZ hasn't started.

If I call your support line before I start a download, can they verify positively that LNFZ has started?

I'd say at least 2-3 minutes after to be safe. The data reporting isn't in real-time so sometimes it can appear data is being measured wrong but all it's doing is catching up to the day's activities. I'd say 12:02 or so you can initiate the downloads safely. Should there be a problem, feel free to reach out to me or my colleagues at exedelistens@viasat.com
