Evelyn, the Windows 10 download is between 3 and 5 GB, so that is a  big chunk of data. You will have to be careful, since Microsoft has moved to a very aggressive program to get those on Windows 7 and 8 to upgrade, the latest was to change the priority of the Windows 10 update from Optional to Important, and if you have the updates set to Automatic, or even Let Me Schedule the Updates, it will still download it without your telling it to. They have been very sneaky about this, upsetting a load of people.

Now that you've rolled back to Windows 8.1, you'll want to block any future attempts to upgrade to Windows 10. The following link describes how to do that:

http://www.zdnet.com/article/how-to-block-windows-10-upgrades-on-your-business-network-and-at-home-t...

Beware that this involves modifications to the registry (but the author provides a link to a couple of files that do it for your and looking at them they do exactly as stated).

However, I've found it just as effective to uninstall the KB3035583 update (the GWX application that's doing all the damage), check for updates, and then hide the KB3035583.

Unfortunately, Microsoft keeps reissuing that update every other month or so such that it rears its ugly head once again so you have to consistently be on the lookout for it.  Most recently reissued it 7 days ago:

http://www.infoworld.com/article/3048152/microsoft-windows/microsoft-re-releases-kb-3035583-get-wind...

In addition and as recommended there set Automatic Update to "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them" and uncheck the box marked "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates."

Even if you don't install Windows 10, without crippling the GWX application you'll find it will download the latest version of the installer in the background to the tune of 3+ GB as Steve notes every two months or so as new builds are released.

Why don't you want Windows 10 if I may ask? I hated 8 and was just curious on why you rolled back.
oh and yeah it's because of those downloads

I am totally ignorant to all of these GWXapplications, downloading installers, and with it eating up my GBs, and even if I change the updates to install them myself..I don't know what to do. I guess I will just have to give in next time Windows 10 rears its ugly head..I just use my computer for fun, news, you tube documentaries, but I guess windows will get its way in the long run....

They don't have to if you don't want it. Windows isn't the only OS, Linux is open source so you have complete control.
