"In the olden days" one would go to Control panel, Internet Options, and click the Connections tab and then the Setup button. Answer all questions to fit your Internet method and it worked from then on. This apparently was still the method in Windows 7 but then came 8 and and now Windoze 10... I got lost in the woods some time ago. Check Win 10 to see if such control of your machine is still available.
P.S. I still run with Win XP Pro and won't budge. I'm a power user and demand performance and absolutely hate .Net Framework. Those twirly gizmos you see nowadays... They are there to entertain you while your slow computer processes nearly everything it does using .Net Framework.
