Someone a while back told us what to do to keep Windows 10 from popping up and trying to download. Well followed the rules and everything was good UNTIL I was tired one night and when I hit shut down they put that darn Window 10 update thing on computer. Can't remember the update number now. I did a while a go and went to updates to delete it. Must have remembered me fro  time before because this time there was NO way to delete it. Now it keeps popping up saying Windows 10 is having problem downloading. GOOD I DON"T WANT IT TO DOWNLOAD on my computer. This after noon wasn't online but was busy and everytime I walked by here was that nasty window 10 boxes saying having problems downloading Windows 10.GRRRR!!!! How do I make it leave me alone? Any suggestions of how can get rid of this problem besides throwing a rock through my computer.

I sure do believe it. But then I'm stubborn and not downloading. :-)

Thank you! Thank you! I did it all again. Hope it works again. I had done that before but the sneaky Microsoft stuck it in updates again. But hopefully got rid of it again. This time wrote all instruction down.

thorneo Win 7 will be getting security updates for a long time. Can't remember the exact date but it will be a quite a while. Will probably need new computer by then and that of course will come with Window 10. Also all bugs should be out of it. :-)

Welcome to Microsoft's Patch Tuesday!

The two updates mentioned above in the InfoWorld article were briefly pulled yesterday; however, they are now back with the latest round of Windows Updates - the difference is that they are now "Important" rather than "Optional" updates. In my case they remained hidden, but be wary of:

KB3035583 - Windows 7 and Windows 8.1
KB3112343 - Windows 7
KB3112336 - Windows 8.1

P.S. Security updates (extended support) for Windows 7 continue until January 2020; for Windows 8.1 mainstream support continues until January 2018 while extended support (security and critical updates)  continues until January 2023.

FWIW, this month's updates are in the 90MB and 110MB range for Windows 7 and 8 respectively and outside of the ones mentioned appear to be security updates at first glance (but looks can be deceiving).

Thanks Old Labs. I have that KB3035583 hid. That is the one where they are trying to force Window 10 on you. But what is the KB3112343? Probably something I don't want. Thanks for the help. Have a nice day.

KB3112343 is discussed at:

http://www.infoworld.com/article/3011040/microsoft-windows/windows-update-patches-kb-3112336-and-kb-...

but basically additional support for Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade scenarios as Microsoft becomes more aggressive in pushing Windows 10 out.
