Help: All 4 lights blinking on modem?

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum but have had exede for almost 2 years now.  Overall have been very happy with the service.

For the past 2 days I've noticed that all 4 of the lights on my modem have been blinking together consistently.   I also looked at the modem info page and seen a red explanation mark on the tria image.

I am on the freedom plan and have used 90GB so far this month.  My connection and speeds seem to be fine.  Streaming with appletv works great.  Testmy.net is always around 15 to 20 megs down and 2 megs up.

Ive uploaded a few pics to show the signal levels and info.  Should I concerned about the blinking lights or is it just aliens from space trying to communicate... lol :P

All 4 lights blinking means a fault has been detected and pretty much confirmed with the screen capture. I'd wait for one the moderators here to weigh in. In the meantime, I'd probably check to ensure that all coax connections from the modem to the dish/TRIA were tight (provided they are easily accessible - no heroics please) in an attempt to avoid a service call.

Either that or there's a blue light special over in aisle 4 ;)

P.S. Power off the modem if doing that (and pray it powers back on after).

FYI for others looking for this answer.  If all 4 lights are blinking on the modem you have a high cable resistance and need to have a service call by a certified technician.  This could be from not having the proper solid copper cable, or from a bad splice (no splices except at ground block are recommended), or a long cable run over the 150 feet max, or another cable or connector related issue.  However on rare occasions, I have found a bad TRIA (transmitter/receiver) on the antenna.

Contact your LOCAL Exede dealer who installed it and they will help get this fixed.  Ahh, you didn't contact a LOCAL Exede dealer to get set up....probably why you are having this problem.

Sorry...for being sarcastic, but I see this way to often.  People just call whatever number they see and do not ask the advertising company where they are located.  Usually the bad installs are from contracted companies and not LOCAL Exede Dealers.  Only when something goes wrong and folks want their service restored ASAP, do they try and find out who their LOCAL Exede Dealer is.  And then get mad at me when I tell them I can fix their problem for a fee.

ALWAYS use a LOCAL Exede Retailer, if you have an Elite one near you, even better!

We've had Exede for about 7 months now. We had Wild Blue before. Our modem has done this same thing a couple of times. In fact is doing it right now. All four lights blinking in unison. You said in your reply to this post, " Ahh, you didn't contact a LOCAL Exede dealer to get set up...probably why you are having this problem."
We called Viasat to get Exede in place of Wild Blue. How are we to know Viasat will not send a "LOCAL Exede Retailer"? Shouldn't we be able to trust Viasat?

Daniel, they are a local dealer, so I think it's fair to say a bit biased. :) If you're having trouble, please reach out to us at exedelistens@viasat.com with your account and contact information. Please reference this post in your email.

It has been quite a while since the last post. I unplugged the modem for a while and plugged it back in. No problems since. I assume it just needed a rest and a re-boot. The modem's working fine.

Brian - What happened to your problem?  I'm betting you had a bad TRIA.

Hello,

I called the tech support and they told me nothing looks wrong on their end.  They said that it was showing my modem is downloading data, but they cant see what the data is.    They also said that it could sometimes happen because of a firmware update.

I took my chances, and unplugged the modem for a few minutes and plugged it back in.

Watching the modem admin page, I seen the modem then did a software update, and it reset itself.  After the software download it shows Software Version UT_2.2.4.0.5 and the flashing of all the lights has stopped and the red explanation mark is gone on the admin page.

The modem has not lost the connection since, even working fine in the blizzard here on Long Island a few days ago.

Very strange, but as long as its working, I'm happy.   Thanks all :-)

I turn my modem off most days. There should be no problem in turning it off and the back on later or am I missing something?
