Is Exede still doing the Great Gigbyte Give away? Where you could get 5 gigs free. Haven't heard anything about it lately.

Helen, well that was unfortunate timing. As has been discussed below, the Great Gig Giveaway has now ended. It was a long running promotion, it's been in place since November and many tens of thousands of gigs were given away.

As for everyone who feels they were misled about the gigs expiring, they didn't as long as the promotion was running. You did of course have to use them while the promotion was running, though. Sorry for any confusion.

I got the great gig giveaway in February 2015 from Nickole.  She told told me that I had 30 gigs in "the bank" and that I could use them in 6 separate 5 gig increments anytime I wanted to.  " as good as in the bank"

Well, now I did need 5 gigs more (1 increment)  this month (May 2015).  So I called customer support and was told that the promotion was cancelled and that even though I had 30 GB in the "bank", they were no longer good.  

Customer service girl was nice enough to give me 5 more gigs for May - and I thank her for that.
BUT - how did my "bank" of gigs get stolen?
Will Exede put my "bank" back??

Pinearbor, the Great Gig Giveaway was a promotion introduced last August, and was touted as giving you "up to 30 GBs in 5 GB increments". Originally it was to last only six months, but actually went on for a few months more before it was ended. It was never stated that the 30 gigs were put in your bank for use anytime in the future.

You have to specifically request it from one of the moderators here (see Beau's reply above since some don't know the routine ) or via phone to determine eligibility (not everyone is - I'm not).

It's sorta like the old Ally Bank commercial - ya gotta ask.

Helen, Old Labs has his internet through NRTC, who then subcontracts with ViaSat for the service.

Wanted to mention for people complaining about Exede Internet. They put up a tower just down the road from us. Thought it was a cell phone tower. It WASN'T it was Casair  broadband. So went online just to check it out.  I was NOT impressed. I think Exede is better. Just my opinion before anyone starts yelling at me.

Like Steve said - NRTC has a wholesaler type of relationship with ViaSat - they were the only ones offering Wildblue back when I signed up for that in 2005 - they were the only ones offering it in this area at that time. I stuck with them on upgrading to Exede. Despite being on the same infrastructure, all options aren't available to us but it does have some advantages.

Hello Guys, I sent in a request to use some of my free time. I am having a service person connect to my computer tomorrow and hopefully repair it. They are really going to need the speed. I hope it wasnt given to me yet because my speed is awful.
I am only getting .51 mps on download and .51 mps on up. Yes you are reading that right, it is point five one. That is really sad. The person that emailed me suggested I upgrade my plan. I explained I do not see any reason to upgrade when my speed is so bad. Its ok for me normally what ever it is because I do not down load much, or upload. But this month with the computer problems and doing some business I have had to download and upload a lot. But I dont normally go over. If I was getting super speeds I wouldnt mind to pay a little extra, but my speeds do not ever go over 3 mps. So when they cut my speed, doesnt make a big deal to me. But right now i am needing it. I hope someone can check and see, if they have given me the giveaway time, and my speed is still this bad then I believe I need a service man too. I contract is getting close. Its sad I dont think I am going to find anything better, I think everyone is about the same. But normally customer service is great and dont want to loose that. The program that this company had me to download, I told them is says its going to take 2 hours for it to download. They could not believe it and asked who my supplier is. They suggest to find a dial up company, that it would be faster then this. And that was during freezone time, and I even still had about 25% left. I am hoping someone can check this out for me by tomorrow when they have to connect. Thank you.

Gone at the same time as Kimberly?  Coincidence?  Even more curious...I had requested 5GB  and received it.  A few days after I received it, it disappeared!  They took it back!   Also coincidentally (?) this happened within a day or two of when Kimberly went missing. I can't complain too much, because during the previous usage cycle, I did not accumulate any usage.  The bummer was, I was paranoid to take advantage of that because i figured my correct usage would pop in any day, but it didn't until the cycle reset.

Yep, I'd imagine the abrupt termination isn't going to sit well with some. Maybe it's just in preparation for the "exciting new changes" - not that I'll see them ;)

The Quacks are already coming in. Mrs H just planted the seed's of FREE GIG's FOREVER. Right at the Weekend Too... When the Other People come out....

I put my Free Gig's under a rock. In a can. A P can. And no one knows where. 

I will be offering them on eBay at a later date.

JEP, that is weird they would take them back???

I don't think they took them back, it wasn't really made clear that they didn't roll over month to month if I gauge it correctly.

When I called support and was told about the 30 GB that I could use in 5 GB increments I specifically asked if they expired and was told no. I asked 2 or 3 times since and same answer. Oh well I guess the left and right hands don't communicate....

This is where I think (and have thought from the time it started) it's going to get interesting here. These people haven't learned how to properly budget their data. I doubt a lot of them understand what's about to happen to them. The data that is probably not lasting the month now is going to run out a half a month sooner. We went from dialup to Wildblue to Exede with a detour by Millinicom. Exede for all it's faults is the best we have had.

I know what you mean, I tried to use 5 gigs yesterday, it was really important to have some extra time at full speed. i was really kind about it, but I never got a answer and even asked each time to let me know. Well the next think I looked I had 10 extra gigs that I will not use up in the next few day and I am sure they will not remove 5 of them. I only asked for 5 gigs of my free time and mostly all I got was they wanted to sell me a bigger package. They knew i needed this and think they was just trying to challenge me to upgrade my plan. Well that wasnt going to happen. I had a computer company calling in to my computer to do some adjustments and explained over and over again. I explained I needed it before 1:00. I think they must of have added it after we was done because i know have about 10 extra gigs, again I only asked for 5. I never get a speed over 2 or 3 Mps. I checked my Verizon connection and was hitting over 12. The same price the same caps, the only thing is I dont believe they have the free zone and mostly I dont even use my 10 gigs they give me. they just go to la la land. Well when my contract up is I going to switch to Verizon home system. I really should have the speed on it because they put a antenna out side, I checked inside with a iphone. So the speed should be a lot better and I will never hear about congestion again. I am so sick of hearing everyone complain about congestion. I really like this company, but I am paying a fortune and not getting what I paid for. I believe I will also contact fcc to see what they say about paying for something you dont get. I do not do a lot of down loading so speed is not a issue, but when I do need it, i would like for it to be there and also not have to send 6 or 7 emails begging for help. If excede is paying for the download speed they should be giving us, they are being cheated. I know I am, I have never complained about the speed and just worked with the .51 to a max of 3 mps. So when I ask for a little help I wouldnt think it would be such a big deal. Plus another great advantage to Verizon is that it can pour the rain down and I will still have internet. Now if I could get my TV set up this way. I am also going to start hitting the cable and phone system up. They have it just a little ways up the road. The money I would save dumping these dishes that doesnt work if it is sprinkling rain, the internet is not bad. I will not have to go out and knock the snow of my cable or phone line to have service either. It is time for some of these internet companies find out they do not have it where they want us, there is other options out there now.

You have to beg to get it, and then hear the story that they want you to pay more. I am not paying any more, when I am not getting for what I am paying for now. After all these issues yesterday to use 5 of my free service, I noticed they added 10. I  am unsure which tech could not see they already added it. They was paying attention just trying to make me get a higher package. yhea that is what I want is to pay more to not get the speeds no way near what I was told I would get, now I hear about their problem of congestion, not my problem, but I am the one paying for it. Then make you feel bad for asking for some help. I have been good and no complain about the speed of .51 point five one to 3mps at the highest. Do to congestion, which I guess is my issue.I did a speed test on my iphone and was almost 10 mps, this was my phone in the house. Verizon has a new system call house internet. They put a antenna out side, same price, same cap, no free zone as I know of, plus planning on doubling the cap. More time then what I need for the same price, I dont need the free time, staying all hours just to down load. Then on customer support would not help me because I did not have the 4 digits of the card that was being used, but gave him my last 4 of my ss#, was not good enough and couldnt help me. I need the time and the speed because I had a company hooking up to my computer to do some service. And needed at least my 3mps. I got a call, for a customer support person, telling me I needed to raise my plan, I told him I am not getting what I am paying now because of your issue of congestion. I am so sick of hearing about that. There will be none from verizon, nor loss of service do to weather, plus I dont have to knock the snow off of the little box they put out side like I have to do with the dish. So after this guy really complained to me about giving me some help with 5 extra gigs and being told "I want you to know you one have one more time you can ask. I thought there was 25 gigs, I only remember twice, at the most 3 time which would be 15. I know one time I was told it would not come off my free time. Well he might be right, because they gave me 10, know I will not use 10 in the next few days. They think they have me, and I was sure they would, but now I have a chance to go with Verizon for the same price, no congestion and is the same cap now, but do to double. Weather will have no effect, plus Verizon is in the process of upgrading the towers. I saw them doing it yesterday, coming my way. I like exede, and the customer service on her. But I am not going to be talked to like that guy did yesterday, and having to beg for something that was given to me. I asked for 5, and got 10 which 5 of those will go back to the company. That away boys. Looks like customers are dropping off like flies. Something need to be done about the Techs and costumer service at the main office. Remember we pay for you to put food on your plate. So you need to say Thank you to us, instead of giving us a hard time, and if someone was watching they would had seen someone already added 5, why did they do it again. They don't care. Verizon care about my phone service, I am sure they will about my internet. I will also have constant speed no matter what time of day it is, or the weather. So techs and customer service, except the ones on here, they are good. Remember when you eat you next steak, it could be you last, because you thought you was better then the customer that pays you.

I just read that Kimberly is gone? Well that explains what happen to the good customer service. Maybe she went to Verizon were they are allowed to treat customers like customers.

Duck - Yes, I thought it very weird that they would remove the 5GB from my cap several days after giving them to me.  But, like I said, we did kind of have a changing of the guard at that time.  And then again, I was past my 30GB GGG total, so maybe they just caught up with me.   ;-)

You all certainly know how to cook up conspiracy theories. ;) Kimberly and the GGG promotion ending are not connected in any way. There are no sinister intentions; it was a promotion and it has now ended. I'm starting to think that you all think we sit around here looking like this:

Danielbo, we got in on the good price on Verizon last fall and got 30 GB extra on our phone plan, I hot spot that quite often through my phone and use it to watch some live streams (and no folks like I've said many times LNFZ is worthless to me,  I'm talking about a basketball game, they don't play those at night)  and it really works well, and we've struggled to go through even half of our 30GB most months.  A Verizon rep showed me the antenna you speak of and I would think it would work quite well.  I'm just waiting to see if Exede is actually going to come up with changes in April as they claim, if not we are going to switch to the Hughes 50GB/50GB plan (100 GB total) which is available in our area.  Can you get that?  I know its not available everywhere like the Freedom plan but 50 GB during the "normal" hours and an extra 50 GB from 2 am to 8 am is quite a lot to work with.  Good luck getting your issues resolved.
