Google Voicedoes not function properly (link to) with an Exede Voice phone/number.

I have attempted to connect my home phone (Exede Voice) without success. I am using a windows 10 pc. I have attempted to create a successful GV account to link a GV number with 2 separate gmail accounts in the event one had some anomalous setting preventing the link. GV will provide a number and verify with a 6 digit call to the exede phone but does not reflect that GV number in the account. The GV number does not function either.
I tried the google product forum for assistance but in fact they are clueless in reference to satellite internet voip services.
any ideas? there seems to be not one representative that has personal experience to give a definitive answer, only general: i don't see why not, etc.

It's because of network of network congestion.
Do a speed test at www.speedtest.net
Then post the results.

Here are my speed tests using the speed test app.

As you can see the network congestion on Exede SUCKS between 5pm and 2am and around 10pm is the worst where you can't even get online and or use your using your phone because it's a VoIP (Voice Over IP) phone.

thank you there Jakster but at mt location:

nope, not the issue. that is plenty of bandwidth for voip. i connected a cell phone through verizon and at this location the bandwidth doesn't touch that. have you personally linked or tried to link google voice to exede voice? i need actual experience, to connect voip the bandwidth needs merely kb's, much less mb's.

funny you should mention verizon hotspot setups. prior to exede we used millenicom, a verizon reseller, who provided verizon bandwidth via a thumb device, which we attached to a router. verizon being the only carrier that has a tower remotely close to my home, it was survivable but 122/kbs was about it with an external antenna. so, we do have a verison pretty basic cell plan since we are not really cell phone kinda guys, being old and all. we could work out something with verizon but a it would cost more than this is worth to me and here is where the bandwidth is an issue.

Oh, ya maybe want to check into AT&T because they have better coverage than Verizon in 98% of the United States and they allow you to make you phone a hotspot which their network's download rate is around 50Mbps (as ya have seen by my speed test post above) that's double what you can get from Exede.

We were faced with the same issue, Verizon was the closest tower, so we went with them, we got sick of the price gouging and called AT&T, they sent us a couple phones and said if we can't get signal to send them back and then not be charged anything. We went with it and could not be happier.

They say that there is a 10BG cap on hotspot per device for 5G before there is a slow down but I've yet to see that slow down happen, I watch YouTube videos from around 6pm until midnight or so, and I do that every day, and then have done so for the past couple years now.

Maybe worth your while to at least see what they have to say???
Ya never know....

thank you for the experience and option. i live in the panhandle of florida, aka redneck riviera, just far enough from the beach and not near any significant civilization where even the twisted pair lines barely qualify as functional. for whatever tech reason att cell coverage does not work at all here. it is literally verizon or 2 cans and a string in reference to cell voice or data. even that is dependent on precisely where in the house you call from or use an external antenna. att pulled the old sure we can hook you up with dsl, no charge to setup and you are on the coverage map. when of course it did not work, as in at all, it was on me to return their hardware or pay for it. so i'm thinking, in the colloquial, blank them and the horse they rode into town on. excuse that please, i get emotional when i recall it.
so to add to this mystery i used googles account recovery tool, which sent this email to me:
Google Voice <voice-noreply@google.com>9:55 PM (10 hours ago)

"to me
Hello,

Your Google number (850) xxx-xxxx is associated with the Google Account username xxxxxxxxx@gmail.com. Please use this Google Account username to sign in to Google Voice at https://www.google.com/voice and access your Google Voice inbox and settings. Sincerely,
The Google Team"

so i call the number they say is linked to my account and does it ring the linked exede voice phone? nope, does not. as you may recall in a previous exciting installment of this, whatever it is, i connected my brothers cell (verizon) not a problem, so i do know how to do it, if that is an indicator.

i think, and i merely guess, this is a coder/network engineer issue, way outside the normal box CS reps usually encounter. then, i am infamous that way.

you can bet i'd give att or any carrier a run if it was viable and economic but verizon cell voice (i mean bare necessities) and exede internet and voice. i actually could do better economically than exede voice but it is functional and it is easier with one bill so...

Thank you Jakster. i hope you get someone as willing to be helpful should you run into a similar brick wall as this. actually i hope you do not run into the wall at all and avoid this nonsense altogether.

to you and your family as well. in my experience, which is to say 1954 and done a variety of varied stuff particularly late 60's early 70's (i digress), 2 heads are always better than 1. well i say always, there are always exceptions but not in this instance.

thank you for being the guy that cares.

also i did want to mention that exede cs called back and said their upper echelon tech guys said there is no fundamental reason exede voice would not work with google voice/messages... with the sole possible latency issue. then, that is the fallback answer to every sat problem not solved otherwise. that is not it since they had no problem with the 6 digit security call but this was ever only a passing fancy.
so this goes in the too hard to do box apparently since they (cs) never did specify they had personal knowledge of this being done successfully.

# David Gillespey,

Your description of what you are doing or trying to do is hard to follow, it's very umm...mechanical.  I thought GV went out about 14 months ago and was replaced with "Google Hangouts." I don't know for sure as I haven't looked there in awhile.

I have a setup that uses 'Hangouts' to cause all my phones to ring at the same time if the person calling uses the Google number. Any phone can answer the call and the others then stop ringing. I could use the Google number to make or receive calls using my computer but don't.  The phones that I use are the exede voice and all others are cellphones operating on the T-Mobile / MetroPCS system because they allow WiFi calling which works well out here with my common router connected to exede. I think 'Hangouts' allows about 10 different numbers to be included in the phones list, I use 4.

HERE is a link that might be helpful to you.

that is correct, kinda sorta but the legacy version remains and a new voice is an option. then as you say chat has virtually if not literally the same functions with a different gui/page. go figure. but i can say with certainty, along with all the brainiacs at google products (they think very highly of their space on the iq scale), that none of those link with my sat isp voip phone. now rest assured they can't say how or why but it is entirely my fault, the end.

Still waiting to see if anyone on here can chime in to see if they use Google voice or not. Unfortunately I've not personally used it to be able to weigh in to help you out.

don't sell it short the fact you have any interest in the issue. in my experience that is a rarity . i concede this is far right on the esoteric bell curve. still, you'd think google products employees/experts would have breezed by this at some point, but given 3 joined in to claim victory over their superiority in all aspects of the human endeavor relative to my meaningless and pointless existence, despite the fact they collectively had zip experience in this specific area. which is to say they think really highly of themselves without providing proof for the basis of that belief.

If two or more android smartphones with google voice or google project fi attempt to make or receive a call the exede modem will lock up. It seems the calls use a static port and the modem seems to have trouble dealing with it;

I do not use Google voice but, a good friend of mine is a CM at Google Ireland. He's a decent tech geek too :) If you use Twitter, you might want to contact @CM_Valgard and ask him if he has any ideas.

He is a gamer so understands latency and, voice communication (They use live voice chat in many MMO games)

There may be a simple tweek they know about on the European side that we don't know about here.

Thanks @Bev That is possibly a very useful path. for transparency this was ever a point of curiosity, which became more of an obsession once it became clear how inexplicably difficult this is. Frankly i put this in the too hard to do box for a number of reasons. others began posting they were having the same difficulties, i.e. choose a number, do the 6 digit security call back successfully, then chose a GV number then goto the GV settings/ google hangouts/legacy and it always pops up: choose a number. the you do the error dance since you have already chosen a number. then you use the recovery tool and get the GV number associated to my account. does not work of course. remove that number, rinse repeat. I don't use twitter of facebook... just post my generation not that i don't understand how i just can't bring myself to intentionally post my personal info or thoughts on line for a permanent record.
Anyway, if you want to see professional employees go over the emotional deep end, take a gander at this thread at google products support. They actually resort to personal insults... all the while not answer the question how do i accomplish this or if not why? as mentioned before, you scratch the surface this is not that rare of a problem..
Thank you for being the sort of person that is willing to help rather than insult me, blame me...

Okay, My Google friend asked a valid question. Was your Exede Voice number linked to an Exede.net or Wildblue.net email address when it was powered by Google? If so, that is likely the problem, the number isn't linked to that old account on the front end, but, the backend servers still have those records. The solution is to get Google to escalate you to tier 3 support and, explain that that is what you think is wrong and, that the number needs to be UNLINKED from the backend information since Google no longer powers those email addresses.

Why would I blame you for what a rather complex internet, VOIP and, phone system do when you try to get them all to work together? It's enough trouble convincing VOIP to work well over satellite internet, let alone convincing that whole system to work with Google's systems for phone numbers.

I can see the OCD coming on like it did with me. We will take it an abbreviated trip from the top. I never had an exede or wild blue email account. i do of course have have an exede account. from the outset of this GV odyssey but when i 1st heard of GV I had 1 account with gmail. now through the convolutions many have been created and deleted but that was in a fall back in response to the failure to get a gv number linked to my home evede voice voip number. at the beginning the gv number pop up saying it was linked successfully to my home exede voice and was calleg with the 6 digit security number. after that i go to the regular settings/legacy/hangouts... and it always pops up saying choose a number. i call the number it had said was linked and it did notwork.

because the google reps could not solve this problem they were both frustrated and felt compelled to blame me rather than say ghee whiz i got no clue. i can see that. not that it is right but the logic.

"Was your Exede Voice number linked to an Exede.net or Wildblue.net email address when it was powered by Google? "  nope. never. i never and still do not have either email addresses from either of those domains.

I have as mentioned verified by the google account recovery  tool that provides any linked number which it did but the number does not work nor does it show in any google setting page, only the chose a number pop up.

if you knew how many times iv'e been down this road but believe it when i say i am hardly alone in this problem. there was a lady on the google products forum and implied she had broken the TOS. for my part i may have sent 10 emails through google and that covers it. not sufficient activity to break anything much less TOS.
for pity's sake. i'm done. you might get a noble in computer science if you solve this. my brother's cell hoooked right up so i do know how.
