My son can not play first person shooter games at all! Internet sucks for gaming! Sure wish they'd improve service for gaming! Ping was under a 100 for first 2 days after install. After that increased to 800+ and they couldn't give me any explanation as to why.

Hi Patty. The ping on satellite internet is always going to be north of 600 ms. The reason for this has to do with the high orbit of our satellites (22,000 miles) and the physical limitations of the speed of light. The 100 ms figure you got must have been some kind of mistake. Our sales agents are generally very up-front about the limitations of satellite, particularly as it relates to FPS gaming online. It's not something we can improve so long as we're on these geostationary satellites.

Not all test sites provide accurate ping. Case in point, the one in Bing Search, Powered by Ookla claims ping is under 1 ms .

No fast twitch games generally will not work. A couple of newer shooting games do work but, not many. Now most RPG, Questing and turn based combat games are fine.

I am a gamer, even beta test games. The ones that I play that work best are Eve Online, Rift, Battlfield 1, to give you an idea of what does work for gaming over satellite internet.

I do play some first person shooter games. The lag takes lots of adjusting. It’s far from ideal, and you have to alter your playing style. Figure a 3/4 second delay. Certainly not ideal. Better than not playing at all I suppose.

We do have a video blogger who tests games over Exede. He posts his findings on YouTube if you want to take a look. Some games work just fine, others don't. Mostly it's related to ping but there are other variables as well.
