It works for some games quite well Planetside 2 for example only gives me trouble when I press E to get on or off vehicles. Counter Strike Global Offensive lags me a majority of the time and TF2 I have a fair bit of fun every once in a while getting a lag spike. I live in between 2 small towns so yes I live in a rural area. Hopefully they all will work just as well for you could just be Exede likes me :3

My son plays destiny. We lost our clearwire internet. They went out of business, now needs a new provider. We can't quite decide who to go with. We live in on a farm, so we are limited on Internet providers here. We are hearing so many bad things about satellite Internet. Esp with online gaming.

online gaming is not that bad with playing destiny, my wife and i have exede services with the 10g liberty plan. we can play destiny with it but it wont allow other people to be in the towns or multiplayer. one thing i find odd about the online gaming, if he adds people to his friends and they invite him to their world he can play with other people without a problem. but as soon as they log off he will be alone again. but as far as the game itself it plays just fine. the issue is the ping or latency in satellite internet it has too much lag to communicate with other people. but when they invite u, you would be boosting off their connection somehow. that's how it works for us and we live in a rural area and this is the ONLY internet services we can get.....i hope this helps oh btw it works good with Netflix and anything else...best satellite service thus far

Jan, is that through a VPN? those are hit and miss with satellite internet service, some work, some do not. If that is the case, you would need to talk to the network team or person for your place of work to possibly get it working.

Hello Doris,

There are some online games that have very poor performance with this service and some that may not work at all mostly due to latency, which is normal and expected with any satellite internet network. Since there are thousands of different games out there, we can't say that each of them will or won't work on our network. I’ve provided a link that’s specifies which games appear to work and not work well with the Exede network. Hopefully this is informative.

Doris, Games like Destiny don't do well on Exede because it is an online only multiplayer game. But there many games out there that don't need a constant internet connection. As a gamer myself I only download system updates and game patches during my free-zone on Exede.

I use Exede to download the games and updates, but tether to my phone while playing since my phone latency is about 40ms vs. 700ms with satellite.

I play world of warcraft and the latency hovers around 700ms. It's not ideal but manageable. It's not game breaking for sure. Just make sure you change your game settings to either download updates during the free-time(midnight-5am) or not to download them until you choose because some updates can be huge.

Gaming online with X-Box One will suck your data down, fast! Especially the patches you have to download..when they are like 18 GBs, occasionally.

I have a ps3, ps4,psvita, 360 and xbox one. with 100s of games across them, NONE have ever let me in an online game on live or psn. The ping times out and I get kicked from the server in an instant. Left 4 dead, Destiney, cod, gta, street fighter, mortal kombat. you name it ive tried it and never played online in 4 years with exede. Is what it is

The first couple days you should not have issues playing your games. After that plan on playing old school games that ran on a 23.3kbps dial up modem connection. Because you will have used all of your gigs up. Sorry to say that Exede is a business and when they can milk money from you, "they will certainly do it."

For MMO games Definace, Trove and Rift all work well. The 4th Coming fails, it's a lagged out nightmare, unplayable. Just depends on the game, some MMOs work well, others have minor to moderate lag issues, some are unplayable over satellite.

well... first person shooters are out of the question. reason why is because the signal has to go into the sky (about 22,000 miles into the sky) and back.... but i can play splatoon 2 just fine onto my nintendo switch :3 also i can play fighting games :3 but first person shooters like i said isnt going to be relaiable... cause its too fast pace of a game for the signal to go out and send signal to the satillite and back... i play minecraft just fine onto my xbox one :3 and i can play dragon ball z xenoverse 2 online just fine and also... i hope i can get dragon ball fighterZ onto my xbox one so i can test out the connection onto it :3

I will be honest. I am a heavy gamer, it's basically one of my only hobbies. The simple answer to this question is that you cannot play 90% of online games on satellite internet and have an enjoyable experience.  However, my solution to this is utilizing 4G LTE. Gaming does not actually use a lot of data in itself. What does use data is downloading the games initially and updates that are released for the game afterwards. I do that on my Viastat Internet, but I actually play games on 4G LTE via my mobile hotspot feature that comes included with my Verizon plan. It is not ideal, but it does work good enough. I have 15 GB of 4G LTE data, and that is generally enough to play games on for the whole month. For the actual numbers, my Viastat internet is 600 + ping while my hotspot is 60 - 80 ping. The lower that number is, the better. It's how long it takes for your data (in milliseconds) to get from point a to point b. Hope this helps.

A good online multiplayer game that works just fine for satellite is osu! If you're a rhythm game fan, it's quite fun and has a much nicer community compared to some games I've used. Steep learning curve if you've never played it though, but nothing one can't learn after a few hours of play ;)
