Freedom Plan Data Cap

I am wanting to know if Exede has historically taken action on accounts in the past that use up to but not all of the data allotment.  Verizon recently has done this very thing to rural customers.  Some rural customers using Verizon's Unlimited Data Plans were given notice to find different cell service with no recourse.

I received a e-mail stating that: "Its time to keep an eye on your data usage". I have used around 105gb and have 4 days left until reset. I have no concerns about going over.

Per Exede Data Usage Policy they state that they will routinely send e-mails letting their customers know that they are approaching their data cap.  So I don't expect any problems but would like to inquire to folks more experienced.

I have purchased a router that will let me monitor my up/down usage with high detail.  I could reliably use 149.5gb of data if I wanted to without fears of going over my 150gb data allowance.

I am a 1 month subscriber to Freedom Plan and am very satisfied with the service.  It was a great decision to switch from Verizon mobile hotspot to Exede on beam 324.  I pay for 150gb and would like to make the best of it but don't want to run into any trouble either.  If I had to stay 20-30gb under my allotment to safeguarded my account it would be ok but not preferable.

Hi Eric,
I want to make sure I understand you correctly.  Are you asking if customers that are nearly at their data limit, but not over, get placed in DAP?  If so, no.  We do not slow customers until they use up all their data.  You would not be placed in DAP status at 149.9 GB usage on the Freedom plan.  Once you pass that limit, then you'll be placed in DAP, and slowed.

The emails we send out are to inform customers of their usage, they have no effect on the account.

Verizon is a "Typical New York Corporation" that must see a high rate of return per customer... or else.

Exede is managed by human beings that live and die by the concept of "Nobody's Perfect, not even us."

Exede will not boot you out if you go over your data allotment for  the month. Your speed will suffer greatly, but you are still among friends.  If you do go over, you can pay for more data to get you through the month, or just put up with the slow speed until your cycle re-news.

I had Verizon and finally got rid of their service or correctly lack of. From a land line that every time it rained the static made it impossible to use for days. The last was cell service that wouldn't work at the house. Their charge was (is) way out of line. Good luck to you!

On the freedom plan, you can use all 150 GB without a problem. If you routinely went over that, you may be asked to buy more or change plans but, even an occasional, once or twice a year, going over isn't going to affect your account.

Exede/Viasat is great about that, just slow you down and, send warnings, but they don't force you to buy more, like I said , unless you made a habit of going over, like using 200 GB every month, then they would request you to do something about that and, give you options but, not terminate service without offering you options to solve the problem.

"Some rural customers using Verizon's Unlimited Data Plans were given notice to find different cell service with no recourse."

I've been waiting for this to start happening.  People are switching to these "unlimited" limited plans and thinking they can use all the data they want.  Crude is going to hit the fan when even more people are duped into these "unlimited"  schemes. Cell data is unlimited to 23 gigs and hotspot is 10gigs.  I guess I've always miss-understood what unlimited means!

You are exactly right Jim. People might complain about Exede's low data caps, but wait until they understand unlimited on a wireless plan is under 25GB :).

This very conversation going on in this thread is why I HATE the term "unlimited". I have stated this several times at meetings in the past. In my opinion, the term unlimited is akin to a bug in search of a windshield...it never ends pretty.

If I go to an all-you-can-eat buffet and when I go back for seconds and they take away my big plate and hand me a small coffee cup saucer to use for the rest of my meal, I'm NOT going to feel like I was treated right.

Exede at least, during Liberty Pass, gives the customer enough speed to still be able to do most things they need to do.
The Verizon "unlimited" data is a train wreck around this area.

Technically Exede IS unlimited - they do not disable your ability to connect when you go over your data allotment. Just they are honest enough to call it what it is, limited data at high speeds, slow, possibly nearly unusable for some things after that.

As for Cell carriers, they all have soft data caps, usually around the 20-25 GB range for so called unlimited plans. Some way lower than that before they slow you down. Many land based providers even have caps though most of those are higher than Exede offers today. That may change soon.

Andy - this reminds me of the old joke.  Do you know what the last thing that goes  through a bugs mind when it hits your windshield........ his butt.  And when we were kids and a juicy bug would splat against  the windshield, one of us would always pipe up and say I bet he doesn't have the guts to that again.

LOL!!
Me and my Dad were driving back from the farm when I was a teenager and a BIG bug splattered all over the windshield and without missing a beat my Dad said "it takes a lot of guts to do that!"

I know this is off the subject. Beware this bunch, Scamsters "Is your IP address has been compromised from several countries. So we need to change your IP address and router which will be free of charges. So please give me a call 2-918-238-6739 and get you connected to Internet. I repeat the number once again 918-238-6739. Thank you."

Then there are Love Bugs - too busy thinking about other things to realize the car is even there. LOL BTW, I get a minor Love Bug Season here - not as bad as Florida, but still get them.
