Trouble with Free Zone

Using 1 GB per day when all devices are off (airplane mode) and only using during free zone. I even pay $140 per month to get the extra bandwidth. This is outrageous. When are you going to provide customers with an hourly report of usage so we can document what is really going on?

Keep in mind that airplane mode just means your devices can't transmit.  They can still receive data and that counts against your allotment.

There are a variety of 3rd party software application that can track your data usage.  Supposedly Exede is going to provide a better data tracker, but I haven't seen it yet.  I use Satellite Restriction Tracker and it can be setup to track data usage on an hourly basis.

Are you sure. That does not appear to be true. It shows Wifi as disabled, even turns off Bluetooth. And no emails are updated during that time.

Largely depends on the device being used - some do some don 't disable and appears yours does.

Determining whether usage is accumulating while things are powered off can be difficult since usage isn't reported in real time - typically it will be every 15 minutes but can be longer - the usage meter is only accurate (assuming it is accurate and mine is) as of the last usage report handshake with the modem.

Powering off the modem prevents usage from being reported; however on powering up anything used prior to powering down and the prior report gets reported. The usage meter is always a glimpse into the past not the present - and it's never clear how far into the past. Recommendations have been made that it include an "as of" qualifier - e.g. as of mm/dd/yyyy at hh:mm your usage was x.xx GB.

Only way to determine if data is being used while the modem is powered off  (indicating an Exceed problem) would be to go to a nearby hotspot (library, McD's, etc.) and periodically check usage while there (call home and have somebody power on and observe again afyter it's online).

Off hand, you'd probably do better setting your devices for metered connections if available (Windows 8.x, Windows 10 and maybe some others).

Roger - Sorry, My answer was incomplete. If you enter airplane mode and then enable WiFi this is allowed by the FAA and some device manufacturers.  So under those conditions you could still download while in airplane mode.

Roger I use this (Netbalancer) to keep track of my net usage, as well as toggling off my net as needed. There is a free and paid version of this software and for me this has worked very well.

best way to eliminate any problem on your end is to unplug the lan cable from the back of the modem for several hours and see if you use any data.
