My first postmon this issue got archived after 5 days because, according to Exede, it was old. My guess is it had some proof as to why web performance can be bad and that is a no-no. Can't
have ya'll informed now can we. Speedtest.net can test your speed and ping. Exede gets an F in that category as you can see when you click on the above link. I am getting just under 10mbps speed right now yet I can't play Farmville 2 on Facebook. I am on the new version of Firefox and my flash player is up to date. It takes 5 minutes or more for the game to completely load and what should only take a few minutes turns into hours. So, peeps, check out your ping numbers too as well as speed. AT&T has merged with DirecTV so hopefully I will have another option available in the near future. My only 2 were Exede and Verizon DSL and they didn't have a port opened at the time.

Yea for gaming satellite internet is rough....most dont even work. Im sorry, i am a firm beliver internet should be a utility you can just "get"

I agree that there should be internet for all, and I do use it more so for information, email, that sort of thing. I play my silly game every now and then just for enjoyment. But anyway, technology seems to make leaps and bounds every day and maybe satellite beems will move at the speed of light. Could you imagine? That would be something.
Radio waves do travel at the speed of light. Look at it this way with your ping times. If you had two computers sitting next to each other in the ocean at 115 degrees west on the equator and the only way to talk to them was through a direct satellite uplink. The satellite is hovering 22 thousand miles above you ok so just to ping the computer next to you the signal has to travel 44 thousand miles to reach it them 44 thousand to get back to you. Now not sure about you but I'm quite a ways north of the equator so that means the distance round trip could be close to 100k miles so as a result of high ping times games lag really bad and yes web sites and other things are a little slower as well.
I thought radio waves traveled at the speed of sound, so thanks for the info on that. And the analogy is good too. I live in Texas near the coast and I don't know how that affect me as far as satellite goes. I do appreciate all the information I gain from the forum, I am not an expert nor do claim to be. I believe the more information people have about this service the better. Customers deserve the truth even if it means not capturing a few. So many people don't have any idea and it'd sad. I personally want to be educated and informed. Thank you for taking your time to converse with me and impart some of your knowledge, it is truly appreciated.
ViaSat has big radio dishes like that of NASA'S DSN(deep space network) to get the bandwidth they do they are using some serjouse power I would say maybe 30-40Kw per dish. They transmit using radio waves which are on the higher end of the electromagnetic spectrum and as such they travel at the speed of light. I saw a video or read something about that just recently related to NASA but don't remember where....anyways know that is kinda technal but hope it helps some.

And with you being in Texas your ping times are probably a little shorter then mine in nc
