When is 30 megs down and unlimited data not misleading. Upgraded from 12 meg freedom plan because promotional email from viasat offering a 30 meg plan with unlimited data. Went from approx 100$ per month to 150$ per month. Now I find that the data is the same deal as my old plan and have never been able to get over 19 megs down. Several contacts with tech support and tier 2 techs proved to no avail. After 15 years with this company I am reconsidering my options and suggestions to my friend and neighbor to do the same.

News to me that the company has been around for 15 years. But if you have been a customer that long, you really expected you were going to get 30Mbps on your beam? You can get up to that, but until the new satellite comes online i wouldn't expect any significant change in speed.

15 years would have to be like me, WildBlue before Viasat acquired them. If you count that way, I've been a customer for 13, almost 14 years myself.

The company, ViaSat, has been around since 1986, according to its website. It has been in the satellite internet business for around 15 years, and acquired Wildblue  to expand into the residential internet business.

Jim, not complaining about 19 mbps but about the sales pitch. I left my 12mbps 150 gig plan at 100$ per month. (Speed averaged 12 mbps ) because of a sales solicitation offering 30 mbps with “unlimited data” and now pay over 150$ per month. Turns out the average I now get is 15 mbps with essentially the same data cap as my old plan. I now understand I will get higher speeds hopefully in the near future . I just want what I was sold.

Why wouldn't someone complain about 19 mbps? Exede was commended a few years back for offering advertised speeds or faster. Now they are giving off well below advertised speeds because they have oversold their capacity. And when their phone line customer services goes out of their way to lie to get their commission there is a problem. The service has declined.

That's funny. I never came close to 19 mbps when I was with AT&T.

I never saw 19 Mbs period, with any provider before Viasat. I'm still wondering what on earth he needs more than that for. maybe streaming 4K and gobbling up data in a hurry?

I have never seen 19Mbps since I have been a Wildblue/Exee/Viasat customer!

You people on your under utilized beams :)

Ouch, hopefully Viasat 2 will cure that for you. I've seen 43 Mbps max but, I know there are customers who have seen double that. 19-24 is my off peak average. Good beam except the gateway seems to hate even the hint of a storm moving in. My dish, doesn't much care until the storm gets really bad. Good at staying connected, no so much for keeping the speed up during a storm up there.

But then my dish isn't dealing with the extremes of temperature and wind that my gateway has to deal with all of the time.
