I see commercials all the time for things that aren't available in my area.  Not sure what you mean.  They can't run a commercial and not send it to your TV because you're 30 miles outside of their service.

Not in an area 30 miles away... That's the nature of "Spot Beams."

To help shine a little more context on some of the above comments. Our service sends coverage to areas in what's called a spot-beam. It looks sort of like a honeycomb across america on a map. Basically the signal from the satellite covers X amount of miles around where you live. Some of these can be shared between states and the border will sometimes be really close to where you live.

Unfortunately for TV commercials that covers a certain amount of range as well but may not cover exactly where all of our beams have the same plans. The best thing to do is to check www.viasat.com/internet to see the current plans available in your area.

Some people are ticked because they can't get Viasat.  Others are ticked because they can get Viasat.  Funny....

I dont know what is so top secret about a coverage map. Cell providers have them. The beam coverage map would be no different. I.e. this is 3G, 4G, 4G LTE, etc.

Back when I was a little boy there would always be Long John Silver's commercials on TV, yet there wasn't even a Long John Silver's fast food joint in my state.  Go figure.

So you should have sued them. Seems to be the thing to do these days.

I see commercials for fiber service.  I see commercials for cable.  I see commercials for cell based internet plans.  I can't get any of them because of my location.  Does that equate to false advertising?  Of course not, and it's just plain silly to suggest that it does.

In defense of the OP, it is not right on Viasat's twitter feed they said they offered "nationwide broadband" when Viasat-2 came online. Broadband is defined as 25Mbps minimum. I think we all know there are parts of the country that cannot get 25Mbps Viasat plans.
