Exede Thank You For Providing Me A Chance To Have Good Interet Service and Connectivity!

I live in West Virginia. I am about 24 or 25 miles from the nearest town which would be Logan WV.  Where I live we have no cable TV or internet. We depend on Dish Network or Direct TV for television service. For internet we depend on Exede or Hughes Net for internet service. I work  as an information systems technician. I rebuild PCs, run network cable, and trouble shoot many other pc issues. We have super fast internet at my work place. But I  am happy to have Exede for my internet access. I get 6 to 25 mbs a lot of times. But even if I didn't and I only got 2 or 3 mbs I would still be happy and thankful because at least I can get internet service. I am willing to help Exede expand and help them how ever I can so that they can provide us more plans and options with super fast speeds.

I see and hear so many many people on hear that have hardly anything good to say about Exede. I think it is so sad. Yes they are a company but they are doing the best they can to make this service the best it can be. Technology is something that takes time and patience to develop and make it work. I say this because Satellite technology is expensive and time consuming.  Yes I am well aware that companies like Comcast, Sudden Link, Shantel are going to be faster, but even if they are I would not put Exede down because Satellite does have its limitations such as rain fade. So instead of everyone complaining and constantly crying. You should be thankful that you have internet service. All I had before Exede was dial up  internet service. Has everyone forgotten how slow dial up internet service is? My Grand Father used to say "if you don't have anything good to say then you shouldn't say anything at all." I am guilty of not doing what like my Grand Father said, but then when I hear him in my mind say this I repent that I have  said things that are negative when I shouldn't have. I don't want any of you to think that I am without making mistakes because I am by no means perfect and I want know this.

So we should stop for a moment and think we could have no internet service. Be thankful everyone for the good things we have because some folks don't have what we do. Please don't get mad at me. I am not telling you this to make you mad. I want you to be thankful. We need to more patience.  Have a great day everyone!

It is a clear, beautiful day and I am getting 0.51 mbps.  The fastest I have seen all day is 0.61.  My complaint is that the Exede salesperson promised 25 mbps most of the day and possibly a fade-off to 2-3mbps at peak times.  They lied and suckered me into a 2 year contract which they refuse to release me from.   They said they were better than the 2-3mbppps DSL I had.  I would gladly go back to it.  It was faster and cheaper.

Windows 7 and only this computer connected.  Tried it all on my own and with tech support too many times to count.  Congestion is always the excuse, but they still try to sign up new customers.

Are you saying that your network looks like mine, namely one single computer connected to an Exede Surfbeam 2 non wireless modem using an ethernet cable?  Or, is there more to your network, as for example you have a wireless Exede modem, or DirectTV?  There are so many ways that out of control programs, devices and operating systems can burn data.

I'm getting none of the problems you are describing and there have been times when I have had congestion also.

I have a RM 5110 wireless modem.  I have a desktop connected directly to the modem as well as a desktop that connects wirelessly.   Both run windows 7.  I have a laptop running windows 10.  I have an x-box 360 and a PS3, a phone and a Kindle Fire.  With and without tech support, I have tried every possible configuration, even to unplugging every device and trying them one at a time.  It makes no difference; same crappy bandwidth.  It is 9:30 ET on Monday morning and I am actually getting 8.5 mbps!  This is prime time to feed the livestock and do my chores, but I will stay inside and do my online stuff while I can.  The animals will have to wait, even though the weather forecast is for 85 degrees this afternoon and my doctors have warned me against getting overheated.  The data cap is not the problem.  I never used even half of my plan.  Congestion has nothing to do with my plan.

I'm guessing that the RM 5110 wireless modem isn't the Exede modem.  Have you tried connecting just the desktop and nothing else directly to the Exede modem and see what you get?  You might also want to try the suggestions given at: https://community.exede.com/exede/topics/my-data-usage-q4ygmx5ppikf2?utm_source=notification&utm...

It is the Exede modem.  I discussed my needs at length with the salesperson, particularly about the online videoconferences in the evenings,  and was assured that Exede would deliver a superior product to the DSL I had been using.  A direct lie!

I could even work with dial up internet service, and did until recently, if the companies responsible (e.g. Frontier Communications) would have maintained their hardware, which they didn't, and if websites would be made to work with dial up, which can be done but which webmasters refuse to do.  In any event, I can limit the speed of my internet connection and so I use Exede most of the time as a 3X dial up internet connection, which works just fine with all of the websites I need to use and which really saves on my data use.  However, if I want to download a really large file, I can temporarily lift that internet speed limit and then I have gotten as fast as 2.3 megabytes a second (about 25 mbps), which is more than fast enough for me, even with the 4+ GB linux install DVD images I have downloaded.

Here's a couple of other good things about Exede:

(1) internet security: you get your own IP address on the internet as opposed to first being connected to a network internal to the ISP and then that ISP connecting their internal network as a whole to the internet through one IP address.  This is critical, since that network internal to the ISP can be hacked and then you have a hacker hidden in that internal network that can take potshots at you with impunity.  You don't have this problem with Exede.  Further, the IP address you have on the internet with Exede, while it remains unique to you for the entirety of your internet session, will tend to change from internet session to the next.  That is a good thing, since you are now a moving target.  You don't typically get this security benefit with either cable or DSL, although you would with dial up.  Then, even better than dial up, your IP address has no reverse DNS and all of your TCP ports are stealthed against unsolicited queries, meaning that a passing hacker has no way to know if you are even there.

(2) long term consistent price: so, when you first start the service with Exede, you enter into a 2 year contract.  However, the price stays the same for those 2 years.  Further, you are guaranteed the same price for one year more after that contract ends.  The same is not true for DSL or cable, and especially not for cable.  Other people I know have had to constantly fight with their cable providers just about every month as that cable provider kept trying to jack up the price on them.

Finally, here is a concern I have: the reliability of the 3rd party installer that Exede uses to service my area, as well as the lack of responsiveness of some of the front line Exede customer service people I have needed to call.  If my Exede service were to go completely out, I would not be able to send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com to request assistance.  I was hoping that there would also be a phone number that I could call to get through to Exede Brad and his department.  Exede Brad, is there such a phone number?

I recently switched to Exede from Dish Network (Hughes Internet). I've used Exede in the past and it worked fine for me. I also have no complaints about Hughes. The only thing that baffles me is, with Dish Internet I had 10gb/month. I think I went over it once the whole time I had it. When Exede was first hooked on 2/28/17, within a week I had used 6gb. And, the 12gb was totally used by the third week. I'm due to renew tomorrow, 3/28. Some things I've done to save on data use: I turned off Wifi on my phone (I have StraightTalk, so unlimited data use with them). I have three browsers on my computer, so I turned off all auto updates on the two browsers I only use occasionally. I use Windows 10 w/Edge, so I left that one on. I scoured my computer to find data using programs and I either deleted them or turned off all auto updating.
I'm hoping that'll cure my data use problem, but to be honest, even if it doesn't I'm not too worried. Seems with the Liberty Pass I still get an 'okay' hook to the internet.

Keep up the good work Exede...it can only get better, right?

Cheers,
Pat

Did you read my post above where I asked for a phone number to be able to reach you in the event that the service went down and I would not be able to send email?  Is there a phone number where I can reach you at if that were to happen?
