Exede NOT Customer Friendly

I called Exede because I have hit my data cap in 8 days!  I have never done this before and my habits have not changed.  Since I haven't done anything different, something must be wrong on their end, right?

Well, Mercedes, the customer service rep, told me otherwise.  She said I was responsible for maintaining the data usage on my account and needed to control what happened in my home.  She said the data usage was accurate and she could not do anything to help me.  There were no promotions going on right now and if there were she would give them to me.  But my only solution was to purchase more data at 9.99 a gig.

I replied that price was a rip off and Exede had a monopoly on the service with me being on a contract and having on way to get internet for the next 22 days.  She said she couldn't help that.

Basically, I called for help and was told too bad.  I will be so glad when my contract ends!

Jennifer,

Your best bet is to send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com and include your account and contact information (do not post it here since this is a public forum and the ViaSat moderators here can't determine that information from your profile here). They will be able to determine in general where your data went to while also determining if there is an equipment problem.

That being said there are any number of ways that data can be consumed without your knowledge. Let us know what operating system and version, browser, router, etc. that you're using and the subscribers here can offer some additional advice to eliminate some of the unwanted usage.

P.S. All of us have at one time gone through the frustration of unexpected usage due to unknown background consumption of our data.

P.P.S. In the event you happen to be utilizing Windows 10, be aware that Microsoft is rolling out a major update to it. Don't know if that's your case and if not we'll need more information for appropriate recommendations; however if so check out:

and pay close attention to the "Disable Bandwith Sharing" topic that would be a real killer with this Windows 10 update.

Be patient - it's the weekend and it's not staffed 24/7 although a moderator may stop by here later today. Followup tomorrow if necessary when they're more active.
