I'm a new Exede customer and thought that there was no way I could run through 150 GBs of data in a month.
Halfway through my billing cycle, I'd used up 97 GBs. I started researching online and turned off syncing on my cloud storage, turned down resolution on my Netflix movies, and contacted exedepistens@viasat.com.
Within a few hours I had an email from Lindsey letting me know where my data had gone. They didn't provide enough information that I felt they'd invaded my privacy, but they did give me enough information that I could narrow down where I'd missed stuff.
I did some more research online and found out that Apple's iCloud is a huge vacuum for data. I love the convenience of having my documents updated on all my devices, but it comes at a price. That price is "buh-bye bandwidth." I can't confirm this, but I did find on the internet a claim that iCloud pings your system(S) every two seconds to check for changes on all your documents, even when your computer is asleep. That adds up pretty quickly.
The majority of Apple software is set to update automatically, or at least download updates automatically. That's convenient, but it's going to eat up your bandwidth and you're not going to know where it went.
If you have notifications turned on on your iPhone or iPad, and your IOS device is connected to your wireless network, bandwidth will be used to check for those notifications.
My suggestion is to turn off wi-fi on your Apple devices when you're not using the internet.
Anyway, those are some tips that I hope will help some users who swear that they're not using their data up. I don't think Exede is lying and stealing your data. If you need help, contact them and ask where your data is being used. They're happy to help and you'll have some ideas on where to start looking for the bandwidth hog on your system.
(Now that I've turned off iCloud on all my devices, my daily usage is around 2 GBs. Much easier to swallow than 8-9 GBs per day.)
Thanks again for your help figuring this out, Lindsey!

Thanks for the follow-up, always good to see more Apple specific info and suggestions since much/most here is Windows specific.
