Exede internet going forward - What to really expect from your service.

To fellow customers and potential customers that are curious about the evolution plan.  Serious changes have been made to their system and we should all be aware of what to expect going forward.  I'm not here to bash Exede just to lay the facts down.

I've been an evolution customer for 3 years and I loved it!  I will admit, I did get a lot more than just web pages and emails after my data was used up.  The worst thing about using all your internet was the fact that you couldn't download large files or watch videos which was a bummer but I was ok with that.  

Exede has changed something on their side now.  No matter what anyone tells you, it's not going back to what it used to be.  It's not something wrong with their system or yours.

As of now, don't expect it to work at all if you have more than one device connected to the internet.  It will work but leave anyone working on these devices frustrated and to the point they wouldn't care to use it anyway.  

What does unlimited web pages and email mean?
It means u get free text based web data and free emails.  Period.

You will not be able to use any program that requires you to have a connection to the internet.  It will work in some cases but in most you will get internet connection issues.  I'm sure the list of things it works with will shorten as time goes on as well.  Most phone games we have tried just give us internet connection errors and other programs that seem to be working just doesn't function once they need the slightest internet connection.

So if you are curious about getting Exede Evolution Plan consider these things.  More things than not connect to the internet and require connectivity to work.  After your data is used up, you will NOT be able to use those things.  The truth is you get exactly what they advertise.  Free text based web pages and free emails up to 25mb.  Nothing else!  And if you do get something other than those two don't get comfortable using it and don't depend on Exede to run it reliably or at all after u have hit your unlimited cap.  

Things they have already tried to stop from working all together once ur limit is hit (from what I have witnessed):
Icloud
Appstore
CNN
Steam - Computer application that is required to operate to play games bought from thier system.
Uplay - Same as above
Blizzard - World of warcraft, diablo, etc

Others as well but these stuck out to me the most.  None of these are webpages or email so we are not allowed access to them at that point.  

All in all its what the plan says it is.  It's not what you would think it is though.  If you are under the impression that once ur data is gone you just can't watch videos/download you are dead wrong.  Your internet will be crippled to the point its unusable in cases that aren't free web pages/email.

As of the end of this bill I am reluctant and happy to say that I will be terminating my service through Exede.  With all the new restrictions, I cannot justify keeping it when I can get cell phone service at my house.  Most cell phone companies now offer free unlimited internet up to 22gb per line with 10g unlimited hotspot per line (throttled data after data is used up IF network congestion is too high) for the same price I pay for my equipment rental, evolution plan, and my VoIP phone and I get an 80ms delay playing games versus an 800ms delay.  I appreciate the great 3 years of service with Exede and always have been happy to this point.  I also appreciate you motivating me do research into what else was offered to me as well through other companies.

None of that is true for me, I have been on Evolution plan for many years and it works quite will with bot my wife and I together at the same time. We have reached our usage cap several times and it only slows us down, but everything still is accessible for us. I still can use Steam while at our cap.Maybe it is your router, I did upgrade out router and things work much better.
I will say that when Hughes Net Gen 5 goes online I will be switching, as Exede customer service sucks big time. Just glad we don't need them ever........

You are correct.  I can currently log on to all of the applications I listed above.  They seemed to have fixed that.  I truly hadn't tried them again since the "software upgrade".  That has seemed to be resolved.  I apologize for that misinformation.  None the less, as of recently, the service I get is what I pay for and not what I have become accustomed to in the past 3 years.  Comparing my service now to what it was just 2 months ago is day and night difference.  I would highly recommend exede and mention the evolution plan specifically if they had no other option.  I'm not sure about moving forward with their new plans because I will no longer be a customer but if there is another option I would strongly weigh your options.  What I am saying is that the Evolution plan is unlimited text/pictures on webpages and 25mb email attachments.  That is all and if you run out of data, don't expect it or rely on it to work for you if its not one of those mentioned things.

I agree, it is not what it use to be. When I signed on years ago they said that the system would never be overloaded. That lasted less than six months, been overloading the system ever since. They don't even offer the Evolution plan any more in my area, but it may be available in others. I do know that Exede has dug their own grave in my book and if there was another option for me I would have taken it long ago. As I said above I intend to switch to Hughes Net Gen 5 ASAP.

I agree too, evolution plan used to be great. But it seems like they changed something over the last 2-3 months. Now when we hit our data cap we have had some email stop working (ends up being bad since one of them is my wife's work email). The cynical side of me thinks they are messing with evolution to try to get people to move off the old plan. 

On a good note the freedom plan is now offered in our area.

I've had exede for a few years and honestly I've been happy with the performance considering it's this or dial up. But lately the performance has been awful and when I use my data I can no longer use services that don't actively use data because they block me being able to log in to them. The fact that I can't use steam, dropbox, battle.net, or anything other than text just makes their service practically useless.

How much is it to terminate your services with them??? We have the internet and phone through them and if it wasn't too much we would terminate ours as well!!!

I just switch to another plan and used it up in just a matter of three days. Did not change the way we were hooking up or what we have been doing online. Just dropped the Evo plan and now have the basic plan, and poof it was gone. We have switched over to a cellular plan with ATT and it works so much better. Faster and data is lasting longer for us. Do not understand why but the data usage with ATT is better period. will be dropping Exede soon.
