Exceeding bandwidth

The last several months we have had incidents where large amounts of data were used.  Our internet habits have not changed:  we do not game online, nor do we stream any videos.  I have disabled the video stream on Facebook and taken other recommended steps.

The only change is I did set up a wireless network with a d-link router.  Our room mate does game, but normally does it from 12-midnite to 5:00 am during the open data usage period.

Maybe his X-box 1 and other gaming equipment downloads updates?  Is this a possible issue?? He states it is set -up to turn-off automatically.

Yesterday 1.1 gb disappeared and this morning 3.2 gb is gone with us not being online!!  Or is the usage from 12 to5 leaking through??

Some helpful hints would be appreciated!!!  We have been customers for almost three years with generally no complaints, but if this continues we may look elsewhere for internet service.

Hello Shawn, I can go over your usage with you to see what's going on. I am an Xbox One user myself so I will be able to answer any other questions you may have. As far as updates go, they definitely can consume alot of data. I had an update process last night and it took 10 minutes and used about 1.5GB. Pretty hefty.

We have had the same thing for our service with them also.   I was told that if you purchase an on demand movie from your television provider (we have Dish) that they use your satellite internet to download the movie or purchased item.  I never knew this but in the past this has not been a problem with our internet service.  We have had Wild Blue for years, since it's inception in our area in the NC mountains.  Now suddenly things have changed.   We are elderly, no teenagers or other guests in our home.  I stopped ordering movies from Dish pay per view, something I never had to worry about in the past, because it consumes all our allotted time with Wild Blue/Excede internet service.     My husband got a new computer that has Windows 8, I disabled all that could be disabled per Wild Blue instructions, but that doesn't seem to help.    Exactly what is going on I don't know but something has changed for sure and you will not get any  help from customer service outside of them telling you to buy more time.   We already pay $50.00 a month for internet connection just to surf the internet and do emails.     We are technically challenged maybe but not stupid to the changes that we have seen over the last year.    We are considering changing providers to a local provider that has a tower directly across from me in the distance.   Our neighbors have DNET in Franklin, NC and never have a problem with renting movies that affect their time.   And it is cheaper than Wild Blue.     So we'll see what happens in the near future.  Right now we are unhappy.

Joyce, you just need to send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com and ask for the 5 GB giveaway. In the subject line put Free 5 GB Giveaway. That works so much better than trying to get it by calling Customer Service.

Joyce, this is not all that I stated in our email that is using your data, just a friendly suggestion because I know you like to visit this site. I visited the other sites you provided and only Overstock, that you have always visited, has recently updated so now multiple pictures pop up, slide around, and use data like never before. I have responded to your email regarding the G.G.G. Please continue to converse with me there. Thank you.

Yes I understand that emails can sometimes be misunderstood or lacking in explanation.  But I explained to you that we don't game, don't download movies, don't do most of the things that use data.   I don't go on Overstock as much as before either so I can't attribute that usage as the biggest problem.  Quite frankly I think you tried to solve the problem with our account but it didn't solve anything.  Plus with all the same stories being written here on this site surely there must be a problem that Exede is not realizing.......or all we all wrong?   When people are showing GB used when they are not in the internet something is definitely wrong on your end.   There are too many complaints about this to be ignored.

Oh and one more t hing.    I have taken to turning off my wireless switch now when I walk away from my computer, something I never had to do before.   So now I have to be afraid that my allotted time is being used even when I am not at the computer?  Seriously, I would love nothing better than to have DSL again.

Thank you for taking the time to email me back. (: We will see how closing the tabs when not on your computer works with your data. You should see a good difference. Don't forget to keep me posted as to how everything goes! I will be here to keep digging, just an email away.

I'm going to try something this month to troubleshoot it. I've noticed it does it when my month resets when I watch late night zone the night before. Going to try to not watch anything the night before my reset and see if it still shows the mysterious missing GB. It happened before and it's always on the day of my reset.

We are having the same issue. Ever since exede took over all the Wild blue pages and updated as soon as our data refreshes we lose 3 gigs somewhere. Nothing is even hooked up to the internet.... Im so thankful that our contract ends in 2 months. I will never renew. Also I just got 30 gigs on my at&t plan for cheaper than this ten gigs that I don't even get to use.

Hey Corey, I can take a look into your usage to see what's going on. I know you said you are planning on disconnecting once your contract is up but I can at least make your last two months enjoyable for you. If you're interested, please send your info to exedelistens@viasat.com. Thanks.
