Everybody have VS2 but I can’t even get it that too bad for me I want the unlimited plans too

Very few subscribers are on VS2 right now, as indicated by the handful that have posted here on the forum. In my area of central New York state it is not yet available, as is the case in much of the country. The antenna issue is causing major problems in offering the VS2 service hat was originally planned, but the engineers are still working on some solutions, and hope to have better service available by late summer.

Nope, most are not on Viasat 2.  I am on a notorious overloaded beam (VA) and we have had no offers for the new bird and still only given an option of up to 12 Mpbs speed.

FWIW, apparently the overpriced Unlimited Bronze 12, Silver 12 and Gold 12 plans (the ones at $100, $150 and $200 respectively) may be on Viasat-2 if that's what you're seeing. Andy Schack (a dealer) has one of them and it's Viasat-2 - if anyone would know he would.

I'm on 329 and those are all I see for new customers - I called a local dealer since NRTC has no info on them. That local dealer insisted they were on Viasat-2.

So much confusion that could be easily eliminated by Viasat - the only advantage in them would be that there'd be less congestion but that's a gamble at those prices I'm not willing to take based on past performance.

I'm in beam 314, the only offerings are the 12 Mbps Liberty 12, 25 & 50 GB plans. Those are probably on VS1, but it is not really possible to tell. I am a bit puzzled by the secrecy that Viasat puts forth.

Steve, Liberty Plans are now totally exclusive to VS1. VS2 plans, whether Small beam or Large beam are the Bronze, Silver, Gold. The way someone can tell if they are in a Large or Small beam can be easily determined.....if you are only offered 12mbps speeds, you're in a Large beam.

Yes I go through the NRTC channel as does VeteranSatUser.

That's basically what I was told also  - unlimited plans are limited (no pun intended) to Viasat-2. Viasat-1 is limited to Liberty.

Andy. If you are in a small beam wouldn't speeds be offered up to 100Mbps? And I thought even the large beams are to support 25Mbps. I mean Viasat's on Twitter feed annouced nationwide broadband is available now. I mean that would mean at a minimum anybody in the continental United States should get up to 25Mbps, right???

Unlimited high speed internet offered to NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY in my area is on VS2?  Blow my mind with more information!  Im still trying to grasp the whole idea that 35 to 65 gigs is "unlimited" or that  UP TO 12 Mbps is "high speed"

High speed = broadband = minimum of 25Mbps is available.

Go to my account/change plan and I am ONLY offered Liberty 12 plans with different data amounts.  Enter my zip at Viasat as a "new customer" and I am only offered unlimited bronze, 12 Mbps and 35 gig cap,  unlimited silver, 12 Mbps and 45 gig cap or unlimited gold, 12 Mbps and 65 gig cap.  No speed increase with different plans, only a pitiful increase in your "unlimited" data limit.

Once the antenna issue came to light, all bets were off when it came to speed and pricing.  Originally all small beams were to have up to 100Mbps speeds and big beams would offer up to 30Mbps.  After the antenna issue, speed varies across small beams from 30Mpbs to 100Mpbs .  It seems like all big beams will now only offer 12.  As far as the "High Speed" hype...well, that's the marketing department.

Ron. A few weeks ago, that was the only plans offered to me. Now the 40/60/100 plans are offered.

Viasat plan offerings change like the Ohio weather. If you don't like them, wait 15 minutes and they will probably be different.

Vet, that may have been due to a small beam expansion in your area.  The small beam closest to us was expanded by about 50% on the west boundary.  East expansion was minimal due to the antenna issue. I'm not sure if all small beams are being expanded but it sounds like one close to you may have been.

Dlee... that may very well be the case. Careful, you are making too much sense :).

If I could get Gold on Viasat-2 at 50Mbps, maybe I would make the leap (if 150GB of priority was offered).

LMAO at the Ohio weather reference.  Yes, I dont look daily or weekly, but the plans offered to me have changed at least 5 times that I have seen since "unlimited" rolled out.

Our area is SO congested because so many here have no other options and previous satellites only barely cover us, if at all.  Now it seems "issues" with VS2 are hitting our area the hardest?

It burns me seeing the ads on TV enticing customers to "cut the cord" with their providers and go satellite.  WHY ON EARTH WOULD ANYONE WITH DSL GO SATELLITE?   WHAT ABOUT THOSE OF US WITH NO CORDS TO CUT?

DSL ends about 4 1/2 miles from me and the phone company says we are too far from their "hub" and the revenue out here doesnt justify the upgrade costs required.

VetSat, yes, the Small beams have speeds up to 100 but ALL Large beams are limited to 12mbps.

If you guys are NRTC customers then you aren't "officially' Viasat customers. Let me explain. If an NRTC customer comes in our store and inquires about Viasat 2 service, we can set them up as a new customer. There is no rule against this....as a business practice however, I don't actively go after NRTC customers. Same goes for DishNet customers.

Yes, we are aware of that - but right now Viasat isn't giving me much incentive to become a new old customer as we like to say.

Liberty 12 Plan at a flat $49.95 on NRTC vs. Bronze 12 at $100 as a new Viasat customer plus lease and taxes and yearly property tax (no lease for me on NRTC).

I'm not seeing the value for my needs in switching... it would be about an additional $70 per month out of pocket. Still not allow me to cut the cord and would still be spending $70 per month on Dish TV. I'm guessing Vet isn't giving up Freedom either.

Being a NRTC customer with Viasat has pluses and minuses. On the minus side we are treated like the red headed stepson and support Isnt as good. On the plus side we "sometimes" get plan offerings Viasat might not offer to neighbors of ours. I don't have easycare but my lease fee covers service calls. I also pay less for Freedom than a Viasat customer.

I was actually going to switch to Viasat direct late last year. Luckily I didn't, between getting the Freedom plan and the antenna problems, that would have been a HUGE mistake! So I will live with bad customer support. I think the last time I called them was 3+ years ago anyhow.

It's not much better... last time I figured I'd go by the book...

I called NRTC support back in February on a Friday to have my dish repointed and peaked and was told I'd be contacted by my local member organization  - the following Monday I was called by my local NRTC member organization. I'm surprised they didn't send a letter by snail mail. They in turn had me call my installer directly to schedule ;)

Once through the ordeal, I paid the installer and he simply said next time just call him directly to save 3 days - he could have handled it on Friday afternoon on his way home ;)

NRTC - National Rural Telecommunications Council - utility coop organization. They were one of the original investors in Wildblue. They are wholesalers for Viasat services. Everything is essentially the same except for administrative, support,  billing and email services. Tech support is just one additional layer between us and Viasat if escalation required unless an administrative, billing or email issue. Viasat offers us no direct support it must all go through NRTC channels.

I originally got Wildblue through the NRTC.  I had every intention of switching to Viasat when Exede came out.  But then again, in Viasat's infinite marketing wisdom, they offered a 7.5GB plan for $50, while the NRTC offered a 10GB plan for $50.  Yea.

It wasn't too long later Viasat dropped the 7.5GB plan and offered "25% more data", but it was too late.  Viasat had lost a direct customer (I actually was going to move to Hughesnet...but in their infinite wisdom they dropped the "free zone" and Viasat subsequently added one...weird). 

History is like repeating itself again.  Viasat is offering weird plans (no thank you, I am grandfathered) and Hugesnet is looking more appealing.  Competition is good... I guess.

Don't feel too bad Dontrellz. No plans are available for me. The last few weeks when I log in to my account, nothing shows up. Not even Liberty plans.
