I am having trouble streaming video in the evenings. At around 9 pm Pacific time, my service begins to lag and it becomes difficult to even stream a low resolution video on Youtube. Is there a reason for this? Can anything be done?

It is from network congestion, too many people on your beam streaming their favorite programs during the evening time.

Not much you can do about beam congestion except schedule your use outside of prime time...which is when kids are home from school and adults are home from work..it will be worse during holiday periods when everyone is home....bottom line is too many customers using the available bandwidth at the same time....congestion should improve when VS-2 is operational...some will switch from VS-1 to VS-2 and VS-1 customers will benefit,

VS-2 should be operational sometimes in February...and a couple of months later VS-1 customers that stay on VS-1 should begin to see faster speeds during prime time...you may also decide to switch to VS-2 if congestion continues on your beam..

December is a particularly bad time of the year has network congestion is the worst, and just wait for abput another 10 days and it will get really bad, based on what we have experienced the last several years.

Unfortunately Veteran SatUser is correct. December is kind of notorious for it but if you think about it that's when the holiday hits, people are coming home for the holidays, Grandkids come in with their Gameboys and hula-hoops or whatever they play with now.... it just gets a little busy on the network.

We are routinely working on network management to better control it but you'll likely see it fluctuate in the next 2 weeks during peak hours. The real cavalry will ride in when Viasat 2 goes online early in the new year. We'll finally be able to shift a bit of the workload onto that and free up some pressure on our busier areas. We can double check for you to see if we see a modem issue but just from the sound of it I think it's likely what the above replies suggest with network being at capacity.

They had a false-hope thing blow up in their face once and I don't think they want that again.  Now they are being a lot more careful about saying things that people might be relying on to be accurate if anything specific is mentioned.

I value my country living well above a speedy internet service.
