I have just added DropBox to share information with others in my group. Does anyone know how much that is going to affect my data usage? Does it only count when I access or does it continually drain on usage?

Hello M Shearer, I cannot clarify how much how much data DROPBOX will use exactly. It really depends on how much photos are uploaded and how much time it takes during use. Simply put, uploads and downloads will have to use your data. I believe drop box has options to where you can have it work constant or only when you access.

Potentially very bad on Exede limited plans - although I don't use DropBox specifically, like most of the cloud driven apps used for syncing files across multiple devices and in some cases multiple users, there's a client application that runs locally to do that synching that runs in the background on each device.

There are usually options to selectively sync shared folders (among devices and users).

The safest bet is to simply use the web browser interface and manually upload download on a limited data plan (while relying on any email or rss notifications the product may provide if sharing with other users).

Unfortunately, the data limitations outweigh the convenience of automatic syncing for any of this genre on Exede limited plans.

While it can be used, it requires some caution and if like most I suspect the default for shared folders is to auto sync if the client application is installed and a connection is available.

P.S. Much the same can be said of any of the cloud backup products also.
