Does the current system allow for remote monitoring of my 3 Nest cameras?

The best thing to do would be to find a local dealer that will let you test those cameras on a Viasat connection.

In general, our residential service does not play nice with camera monitoring.  These services usually require a static IP, one that never changes, this is not available on residential service. 

Viasat Business provides persistent IPs, which is a dynamic IP with a lease that renews regularly as long as it is in use, meaning it doesn't change.  

I have seen camera services work fine on our service however.  It might be worth reaching out to the manufacturer to see what they say.

I went and asked NEST in chat. surprisingly, their camera require a Dynamic IP address and, will not work with static IP. Good for us. See the chat screenshot below.

Carlos Z appears to be referring to the router's DHCP server being configured to assign dynamic IP addresses on the private local area network (not the public IP address assigned to the router which then performs NAT).

Rick Kuntz has it right below... you need a dynamic DNS service that will keep track of the current WAN IP address assigned by Viasat allowing access by an assigned name rather than the changing IP address. For example:

https://www.noip.com/

Similarly his other concerns (upload speeds, latency, etc.) should be taken into account when considering remote video monitoring - upload bandwidth may be a problem with some reporting abysmal upload speeds at all times. Not familiar with Nest devices but could also require opening some ports, I suppose.

I subscribe to dyn.dns.com. It reports and forwards the current wan IP address for me so no static up address is needed. My question should be more related to the upload speeds and latency when communicating with the camera remotely. My dsl service has an upload speed of about 1mb/second and works fine. Maybe this will help you answer the question.

As a Nest user I can provide one piece of advice, if you keep the video quality at the highest level it will burn through your data in no time.

I’m considering the no cap plan @ $110/month. How are your remote Nest Viewings? Do they seem similar responsiveness as say, cable internet?

I’m going to be installing Viasat2 large beam on Monday for a customer. He is buying 2 Nest Outdoor IQ cameras from me and we will be setting those up as well. Nest remote viewing is cloud based so there should be no issue with viewing. I am more concerned about data usage and video quality. I’m also going to use an Eero with 2 beacons for the cameras to connect to the modem through .

I use a Nest outside camera on my account. It works well 98% of the time, but is sensitive to what it sees as an internet outage. Not sure you will get away with more then one Next Cam on the service. With one camera, I use about 100Mb @ month using the middle quality setting.
