Does it matter if a new customer gets placed on Viasat 1 or Viasat 2?

I was told that with the new unlimited silver plan that's 25 + wifi I would be placed on the old satellite. They said that it really didn't matter because so many people have switched to the new satellite that there was space to get the true speeds now.

For Viasat to say "so many people have switched" is premature.  You are better off to subscribe to a Viasat-2 required plan and downgrade (for free) later.

This presumes that Viasat-1-like plans will be available on Viasat-2.  It's entirely possible that once on Viasat-2 there will be no "lower speed/data" type plans to downgrade to.  Maybe only by getting switched to Viasat-1.

Welcome to Viasat deception 101!  Its great to know we all switched to Viasat 2, when as of yesterday (Feb 28) it was STILL not even fully functional.  Ive been offered NOTHING on Viasat 2 not even any projected plans or pricing.

A repairman came out to diagnose our slow speed on the unlimited Silver plan and he said that Viasat 1 will get better but the slowest speed on Viasat 2 is 50mbps so it will be faster. Just what I heard from their contracted repair guy.

With the 3x3 MU MIMO router the performance in a multi user house hold will be much better. That without considering that the performance of the new bird is superior is a reason to want viasat 2. Further it's not a matter of getting more people off viasat 1 but a matter of getting more people off specific beams in viasat 1 to see any performance boost.

Ok thanks. The sales lady told me that to get a higher speed like the 25 or 50 I would have to be on Viasat 1 and the only thing currently offered in my area on Viasat 2 was 12 mbps speed. She said that it didn't matter what satellite I was on and that they aren't offering any higher speeds in my area due to the fact that there isn't as much traffic on my beam. She said that there was no need to offer higher speeds.
