do I have to have Dish in order to have this internet service?

I have direct tv, can I use this service for internet

It doesn't matter what tv service you have.  Viasat is standalone internet service.

Viasat requires a different dish which transmits and receives from the Via Sat satellite  either Viasat 1 or 2,  depending on the hardware and where the dish is pointed

Yes in my case the location I am using for Viasat 1 will not work for Viasat 2 because of 100 foot high trees.  I would probably need to move the dish 50 feet to the North of my house and mount the dish on a concreted pole to get Viasat 2.

No you don't have to have any kind of satellite TV service if you don't want to. Just order from Viasat and select whichever plan is available to you.
