Do all the new data plans, even Viasat-2 plans have the reduced data caps?

Looking at what's been posted - are all the new plans the hobbled 100GB capped plans? Or will there be improved plans with VS2?  Looks like it VS2 still isn't showing up in my area. It seems like a huge miss if the all the hype around ViaSat2 ends up with smaller data caps.

Hi Owen

The plans are Unlimited but are subject to be deprioritized if needed after hitting a certain amount of data

I have Silver 25 on the old satellite (that I never get any speed close to 25 mps) and it has a 150 gb limit (unlimited is incredibly misleading and just unethical) the new silver 25 plan on the new satellite has a 60 gb cap ! That is a massive reduction. So massive, I laughed in the customer service person's face. Add to that the higher the resolution, the more date used and 60 gb will last you about a week or two.  They also told me on the phone that I would not be able to stream any movies at all during peak hours if I went over 60 gb.  The Gold plan caps you at 100 gb for the same amount I am paying now for the silver 25. What an outrageous reduction in value.  I have fought these guys tooth and nail for truthfulness and yet they are allowed to use these tactics. The up to 25 mps download is such a joke in my case that I it sends me into a rage every time I think about it.  I hope it all comes back to bite them in #$@ bigtime.  We need an uprising. I am considering an informal complaint to the FCC. Don;t know what else to do...

Beats here, after the introductory rate ends here, Bronze on VS2 is the same price as Silver on VS1 and, no one can get VS1 anymore.

Were I to change plans and stay on VS1 only Liberty plans are available to me.

Let me see 100.00 per month fr internet. I get speeds up to 25 Mbps, video at 480 and, 150 GB priority data on VS1.

Step son same 100.00 gets speeds up to 12 Mbps, video at 360 and, 40 GB priority data on VS2

OUCH! houses just 1/2 mile apart, same installer only he's on VS2 and wasn't a customer when new installs were still done on VS1 here.

Were I to change plans, I'd be on Liberty 50 at 12 Mbps for that same 100.00. Before Unlimited was offered, Liberty 50 at 25 Mbps was 100.00.

Not good, makes Viasat 2 look terrible. The Toblerone modem is cool and, the square TRIA looks cool but, that kind of cut in service for cosmetics? Nope, no way.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to the consumer. Streamlined pricing and plans would help, but your example shows the problem with the pricing and plans today. How can one neighbor pay x, and the next neighbor pay y? I understand grandfathering comes into play with Bev's example, but people on the edges of two zip codes coukd see similar as both new subs.

In my area they lowered the plans even more...35, 45 and 65 gig for bronze, silver and gold. They also limited the speed to 12mbps.

From what I see priority data on the highest level plans will be 100 and 150GB respectively.

As for my opinion of this, I will keep that to myself.

Interesting. Of all the ways I thought the ViaSat-2 addition would go, I never imagined that it would end being a big step backwards. A 33% reduction in service / data-caps is a pretty huge deal.

It looks like that antenna problem with VS2 is much bigger than they're openly admitting.

I am not sure it is the antenna problem. I think they are trying to balance promised speed levels vs. priority data. In other words, when the original "unlimited" data plans offered 150GB of priority data, that was bogging down the speed for everyone. Now, the priority caps on the low plans will expire much quicker, and they will feel the slow speeds first due to depirioritization.

I am sure if Viasat had to do it over again, they would have never offered 150GB of priority data on all "unlimited" plans in the first place. But, it is too late for that now.

I'm sure it's due to the antenna problem with Viasat 2. Consider the silence on this forum from the mods and your post that was locked about the same issue. I'd say Viasat employees have been told to keep quiet about the whole fiasco.

Yes. I am sure you are correct. But information in the public domain is available for all to see. I guess they are sensitive of that discussion on their own sponsored board. Understandable. That are other places that discussions can be had.

Anyhow, I expect the earnings call will have more information forthcoming on their "official" opinion.

Would that 300 million claim include lost revenue for the life of the satellite? Not just the sat itself?

The moderators normally let us talk about almost anything, however the legal team has advised them to be sensitive to things regarding the antenna issues on Viasat 2.

The issues with Viasat 2, insurance claim, and sudden disappearance of unlimited plans are the main reasons for me deciding to sell my Viasat stock at a loss.

Shoot, the legal team might even direct the moderators to remove this post.

When Exede first launched, the initial plans that were offered had about 25% less data than corresponding Wildblue plans, plus they didn't have a free zone.  So, the fact that the new plans are what they are at this time isn't surprising in the least to me.  Wildblue had 7.5GB down plus 2.3GB up cap so 9.8GB total (roughly, if my memory is close to right).  Exede had 7.5GB combined total initially.  After complaining and months, they upped the base plan to 10GB (but kept the other plans lowered), and then added the free zone.  So that helped.  But at roughly shortly after the time they improved the plans offered, and hadn't worked out the kinks in service in this area (failing downloads, pages not responding, on multiple installs by different techs), that was when they closed the beam to new customers, and it stayed that way all but a few weeks since then.

On the bright side, I know absolutely no one who wants to sign up for satellite internet, either Hughes or Viasat, due to its limitations and poor reputation. So, hopefully, the plans won't get any worse and might actually improve.

The problem with that is that folks only sign up because they have to. Very few would choose it if they had any other option. Even an old slow 5 gig dsl line would be better. I'd take 1.5 if it was unlimited and stable for the 45 bucks it used to be.

Folks needing internet in the boonies, will still sign up. Like us, no cell service and a landline is expensive. This is our only communication. It definetly isn't by choice.
