We currently have Wildblue internet service. We have really good service. I was wondering I currently have wildblue DNS ip address set into my wireless router. On my computer that is connected to my wireless router, I have Google Public DNS set as primary DNS and the Wildblue DNS set as my secondary DNS. Will it affect anything with our service or our data usage? Look forward to hearing from you soon.

Hi Justin,
I would think you can. Here is an excerpt from Google:
Does Google Public DNS work with all ISPs?
Google Public DNS should work with most ISPs, assuming you have access to change your network DNS settings.

The page I found this on is: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/faq

The changes you make as your first and secondary IP address happen on your computer. So no matter what, the access to the internet still goes through Exede's modem. If the first IP (Google's) fails, it will revert to the second one (Exede's).

I have not tried this, but it is doable. Same as using proxies for a different IP address.

Hope it helps,

Justin - i used Google DNS on WildBlue for several years and never noticed any issues. I haven't tried it with Exede and I have heard there are issues with Exede, but I have no experience or evidence to the fact.

I used other  DNS servers on Wildblue and Millinicom, but I think (and I could be wrong) that it's not a matter of other DNS servers not working right with Exede, they just don't work, Exede's servers override any other DNS servers.

So, I have been on Exede for quite some time and finally decided to change my DNS to Google and Open DNS. However I lost all internet Connectivity and ultimately had to reset the address's. I emailed exedelistens@viasat.com on Thursday 21APR2016 and have not received a reply from them about my question regarding DNS and if I have to use exede or if I can use others?
