I have been monitoring my data usage and the apps that was using the data. Things were going along pretty much as you could expect when the app 'datacollector.exe' showed up.  It doubled my data usage.  I have been unable to tell who or what called it up..

Anyone have any ideas ??

Hi Willy,
Do you use Dragon by chance?
The file datacollector.exe in in Windows\System32\ or folder. You should only have one copy of the file though. If there are more it is likely Malware.

Here is a site that explanes more and offers a fix if needed:

Hope it helps,

Everett,

It was in the Dragon folder as you suggested,

I haven't received any error messages and it was suggested that I not erase it.  I just don't know why it used all that data.  I wonder if that may be why some users get sudden large data usage reports.

I tried to down the fix but they wanted to sell me a program.

Thanks for your help.

I keep working on it.  maybe contact Dragon..

Hey Willy, I am not too data savy when it comes to apps like this but if you cannot find what's causing this increase from the link Everett provided, let me know and I'll see what I can find.

Hi Willy,
Turn off/ un-check, the auto update feature in the admin section (Administrative Settings). It also loads ad's for Nuance/ Dragon. There is also a second one on the (Scheduled Tasks) tab. Un-check Data Collection.
