Data Usage is outrageous. My data was reset yesterday, and it shows I have used up 2.5 gigs in one day. The bad part is, I wasnt at home at all yesterday. So, it is saying I am using up that crazy amount of data in 2 hours of my usage today. They need to have a daily cap per day so you can set to make sure you don't go over your limit.

Exact same thing happened to me...I lost another GB while I was on the phone with the Customer service rep who told me it was my problem and they couldn't help me... What browser do you use?

I've had great luck with Exede's customer support, including when I've lost service, and when a runaway YouTube connection put me over my limit in one day. Why don't you try customer service again?

I am suddenly having problem for first time of excess data usage.  I think I have traced problem to new computer with Windows 8 which has many built in automatic data consuming apps.  Did you guys recently change computers?

I have not changed computers.. I use Windows 7 but I think Google Chrome ( my default browser) may do the same thing..I recently went into my settings and unchecked a box that said "continue running background apps when Google chrome is closed"..I'm hoping that will make a difference.

I moved to the country and went from Brighthouse to this crap, had no choice, only option available.  Could not be more unsatisfied.  I completely run out of my 15 GB plan by the first week and then suffer the rest of the month with slower than the old dial-up and limited access. Why do they limit you on usage to begin with?  Cable doesn't.  I HATE Exede.

Let me explain how satellite technology works.  Exede service is like an 8 lane highway that travels approximately 88,000 miles round trip up and back from the satellite in a little over a half a second.  There are teams of engineers that monitor this highway for traffic jams and keep it flowing by merging heavy traffic over to a freer lane.  There are also controls in place that only allow a certain number of cars on this highway.  This keeps the traffic flowing at a constant speed.  

Now in order to keep this data highway flowing efficiently and fairly for everyone there are restrictions put in place, your data caps.  Think of it as the gas tank.  You buy a full tank of gas each month and depending on how you drive will determine how long your tank lasts.  If you put the pedal to the floor and are constantly doing burnouts, you are going to use that tank really fast.  If you are conservative, you can make your tank last.

Let's say you are a heavy driver and like to speed and drive your car fast and heavy.  Do you go back and complain to the gas station that your tank is now empty because YOU used it all up in a hurry?  I don't think so.  

Now there are some folks who have legitimate problems.  However the majority of complaints that I read are customers wanting to drive a big gas guzzling car by streaming the fuel continuously without regard.  While actually a majority of our customers are driving their efficient cars in ways that are conservative.

Now if you want to compare the speeds of the cable and fiber companies, compared to us, just check out the independent FCC report that for 2 years in a row ranked Exede #1 for speed at ALL hours compared to our competitors.  Yes they may allow you to run wide open, but your speed and everyone else's will suffer as evident in the report.

Exede is working on technology to help ease these data cap restrictions.  And in 2016 VIASAT2 will be launched giving us an even bigger gas tank and more highways.  Trust me when I say this, Exede does not want to have these data caps.  And with their free zones, brings even more value to our service.

Hopefully this analogy will help everyone understand the why's to the data restrictions.

While I understand data restrictions, I don't understand why my data is being used up when I'm not using it.
Let put it like this... I fill up my gas tank, drive home 3 miles away... Get up the next morning and my gas tank is on 3/4's of a tank.

Then you have a fuel leak - unsecured router, background process using data, cell phone connecting to your wifi for updates, checking email etc or, you are using gas for things you don't realize use that much. Videos, not disabling autoplay on Facebook, sites with tons of graphics or pictures, online games etc...

It's rare that it is anything but a customer issue, and usually that is just the customer is not aware of what uses data. - a bit like assuming idling the car to play the radio while you weed the garden doesn't use that 1/4 tank of gas. (that or you have a leak you haven't found yet (the pin hole in the fuel line.)

Router is secure, cell phone was with me, no other devices attached, computer was turned off... but I still used up 2.5 gigs in a day I wasn't there? PLEASE!!!

Send an email to exedelistens@viasat.com with your name and phone number associated with your account, along with a brief note as to what is going on or a copy of this blog, and someone will work on it for you and help you find your leak.  If you don't get an answer in a reasonable time then shoot me an email david@lakecountrysat.com and I will see what I can do.  Again, no one is trying to rip anyone off here, sometimes equipment fails, but these cases are rare.  A majority of the time there is evidence to show video streaming or some other heavy use.  But shoot them an email so they can help you.  That's what we're her for!

    However, you are blatantly lying and blaming the customer, first mistake you continue to make. Let me make something clear to you as a 0621 Field Radio Operator who learned backdoor and how to jailbreak and fracture; there is always a backdoor set up and integrated in a company-owned router and/or hub.

Now test your logic against my experience.

It would be extremely helpful if we could get a data usage log.  If you can monitor usage, why can't you provide the consumer with a log of usage?  Then we can troubleshoot on our own where the excess data usage is occurring.    I've asked for a log on several occasions and was told it cannot be provided - why wouldn't this be something that is standard/available to the consumers that are paying for this service?

I apologize that you are having problems with the data usage. We can definitely take a look at your account and see what might be going on. It is strange not being home and no devices around or on to connect to the router and modem, so it is definitely something we need to take a look at. Normally the automatic updates on computer, cell phones, and laptops not being powered all the way off as well as tablets will still be using your data. Depending what is running in the background will depend on how much of the data will be taken up. You could try NetWorx (networx.com). It shows usage by hour, day, week, etc and even by application. It's free and can be set to cover an individual computer, or a router's usage (with the right firmware). I have it on every computer, just so I can pin down an over-usage problem if it occurs.
Myexede.force.com/dashboard shows the data for your account (once you set it up) as Exede sees it.

I am gonna give exede hell until they do as promised and fix my internet speed. After that, I won't tear them apart about bandwidth, I'll choke that down. At least 1mbps would be nice and I've worked with them on numerous occasions to fix the tissue.

I know why and how to manage my data usage, and usually my numbers are maybe 1gb below their counter; they fix my speed issue, and I will disappear.

I'd say that they are just a company gouging the blue collar workforce, but I know they're a business. I just want them to standby their promise.

Im sorry that the speeds of you internet are moving slow and that we promised to fix it and it has never been done. It should've been fixed for you the first time you called and you still shouldn't have problems.
