Data used up very fast, very unsatisfied customer

I recently purchased 3 extra GB of data and it when through in less than 30 minutes. I have now purchased 7 extra GB. It seems like that data is just used so quickly. I seen there was now a excede freedom plan I was wanting to switch to but of course its not availible in my area. I am vey unhappy with Excede thus far, and Im hearing that we may be getting frontier internet in my area. I can only hope this is true. Data restrictions are no fun!!!!

Data restrictions can make things difficult, but they are manageable, as many people on this forum can attest to. With a satellite we are limited to how much bandwidth can be provided in a given area, hence the need for data caps. I certainly understand how it can be difficult, though.

Exede is a excellent service. Most folks get into data trouble because of there lack of understanding computers in general....not necessarily your fault, most were not born with keyboards in hand.

Turn off windows automatic updates....turn off anything that auto updates. Most folks claim they are not using the data.... but the computer is.

Also.... turn your router off when you go to bed or not using the internet. As a computer tech and a exede professional installer, this is the number one issue i see....turn off auto data eating

Turn off your homepage in your browser if you can live without it.  Every time you start your browser you use that much more data to load that page.  You can bookmark it by pressing Control and the letter D at the same time to make it a "Favorite" in Internet Explorer or a "bookmark" in Firefox.

In Firefox, click Tools then Options, the General tab, then where it says "When Firefox starts:" click in the box and choose "show a blank page"

I never use Internet Explorer, so I don't now what to do there to force a blank page.

If using Firefox, install "Adblock Plus" and most ads will not load or appear.   Go here to install:
https://adblockplus.org/    You may get a warning that Firefox has prevented it from installing, if so, click to allow.

They also make it for the Chrome browser.

If Exede is so excellent, why did 2 different representives tell me I had the option to not have automatic payment after signing on? I was curious to know why they wanted my credit card up front and they stated because my first bill would be automatically charged after a few days of installation. I had asked two different representives if this could be changed and they stated yes. I haven't called to ask but after signing on to my Exede account and reading the contract when the installer came, it doesn't seem like that is an option and once again, the customer service lacks in stating accurate information. I too, understand that many other factors can eat up your data, but when it is being used on one device, for 30 minutes of youtube, using 1.8 GB after finishing, is quite concerning. Thank you for your wonderful advice as well!

30 minutes of YouTube video at their default HD will consume about 1.8 GB. It would be wise to change the YouTube resolution to a lower setting to conserve your valuable data.

As for questions you have, you are much better off sending an email to exedelistens@viasat.com, just remember to include your account number or phone number in the email so they can identify your account. The phone reps are not always relaying the correct information.
