I do not know why my data limit has exceeded my limit? I do not play games or download movies. I purchased more data and it only lasted a few days? How can I see which days the data is being used? I have password protected account but I am concerned that someone has accessed my account.

Updates for connected devices and the programs or apps they use can use a lot of data. 1 GB per day is not exceptional usage today. I do not stream or download large files (noting over 300 MB except AV and OS updates. I avoid social media sites and with two of us, we average 1 to 1.5 GB used per day.

If you are concerned that someone is leaching off your router, change your router's password. You will need directions for that form whomever made the router.

I've had exede for a year now and I'm fed up with them. You can't blink without losing all of your meagerly allowed data. Connectivity is a constant issue. A cloud rolls by and you lose service. Most of the time it's AOL speed. I don't do anything on my PC and I can't get data to last more than 2 weeks. Exede is just a notch above Hughes net and Hughes not let is on the very bottom of the ladder. Exede is robbing us blind with data caps that cost a fortune and obviously aren't required by law as they claim considering they sell a 150 gb plan for a very outrageous price. Satellite internet in general sucks. Thes companies take advantage of those who have no dsl or broadband access. You can't even utilize the on demand perks of directv, they're partner in crime, without losing all your data (even though directv says exede won't count your data usage for directv on demand against your data cap. That's total BS. I'm about ready to dump all things satellite and just use my phone.

I understand the frustration, but disagree about the data loss.  I thought the same thing until I put in equipment to block internet usage by devices and controlling how much data each one can use.

Added add-blockers to my browsers, set devices to metered mode, blocked traffic from devices I had not need to have internet access (primarily smart tv and dvd players that stream from a local network drive), and I am 12 days into my new cycle with about 4 GB used.  Now, that being said, that 4 GB is just web browsing and email with very little download activity.  Sites these days are consuming much more data (I think a mod here posted nearly 2x to 3x the data on average).

The real issue is the new satellite was supposed to be in operation by now so I am not sure Exede has any plans or ability to implement any higher data limits or other improvements until it is launched and I believe that no plans were made outside of getting the new satellite up.

If you don't use the internet much between 5:00 PM and 2:00 AM you may want to consider the Liberty Plans as the internet is generally usable outside of those hours.

if you have late nite free zone by all means DO NOT Change plans because you can not get it back.and from reading around liberty seems to be having issues alot

Anyone having any problems with frequent disconnects or loosing your data, please email me david@lakecountrysat.com with your Modems MAC address found on the bottom of the modem and I will be happy to take a look at your modem to make sure everything is working properly . I will also do a data analysis and send you a report of your data use.

As I have previously stated exhaustively on this site, no one from Exede is looking to rip off your data. It is just the opposite, engineers are working extremely hard to make a way for our customers to have even more speed and data.

You would be amazed at all the apps running in the background just leaching away at your data. If you are an Apple user, turn off your Icloud back up. I have seen this as the biggest data waster backing up the same information across all of your devices. When you make a change on one device, it backs it up on the other one or three or however many devices you have logged in with the same account. Thus you are flushing away your data.

I am an Elite Dealer for Exede and not an employee. I am not only a top nationwide dealer for Exede, I am also a user myself and run my entire office including phones off the Exede platform.

If you are having problems, don't put up with them. Let me know and I will see what we can do. When you email me, please give me at least 2 business days, as I do not get paid to do this and work it in my already busy schedule.

You don't but, the modem reports data periodically so, when you unplug it immediately after you get done using the internet or updating, that usage cannot be reported until you plug the modem in again.

I leave it plugged in at least 45mins while turning off all devices then after that unplug lan cable making sure to refresh esvt rite before I unplug cable and still shows useage. even when my data resets I can turn off everything duering free zone and when I turn it on hours after free zone it will show useage. it happens to way to many others to say there is not a problem.

Exede documentation says it can take up to 24 hours to report data usage, although I have never seen it take that long.  Another thing that happens when the modem is turned back on after it has been off is your devices are data starved and there is a surge in activity when they first see the Internet again.  I have seen my laptop pull down 200-300 MB when booting up before I even have control of the desktop.

Hi Brenda, you could also try looking at your eSVT, https://myesvt.exede.net using the same username and password that you use to log into your Exede account.  At the bottom of the page the 3rd icon from the left will let you see your data usage information.  I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it does break the usage down into categories which may help you see how your data is being used.

As Roo notes, the eSVT tool will provide a general categorized breakdown of how your data is being used (and the same breakdown will be provided by emailing as Bev suggests).

While providing a hint, the generalized breakdowns aren't terribly useful in determining in detail who/what/where data is being consumed.

For that you really need to install a third-party traffic monitoring application on all of your devices/operating systems and/or leverage any traffic monitoring features of your router. Most consumer oriented routers do provide some basic traffic monitoring features that may be helpful especially in identifying what devices may be using your connection.

Determining which applications/sites are consuming data is a bit more complex and requires a robust traffic monitoring application that provides that level of detail. Those vary by device/operating system.

If you happen to be using Windows 7, 8 or 10 you might want to look at Glasswire:

If not using Windows, identify your operating device(s)/operating system(s)/router ad someone can offer targeted recommendations.

Once you know precisely where it's going there are a number of ways to address any unwanted usage.  It's a matter of identifying the unwanted leaks and taking specific steps to plug them.

Alternately if not wanting to get into that level of effort, simply identify what device(s), operating system(s), browser(s) you use and some generic catch-all actions can be recommended that address the primary culprits (ads, auto playing or auto downloading videos, etc.)

A few data consumption's that people are typically unaware of are: storage, media, updates, apps, or communications. The number of wireless devices on your home network can also play a big role with data usage. I would like to know how someone can tap into your Wi-Fi and use your data? does it have to be someone in your neighborhood,and how can you find out who it is? my password has been changed, I don't want this to happen again! when we have unlimited data on our cell phone provider,why does exede want to control our data usuage? is it because of the Wi-Fi, and our devices are hooked up on it?

The easiest way is via your router but, there are other ways to hack your connection. Windows 10 will also send updates out to anyone with an internet connection FROM YOUR COMPUTER unless you change that in advanced update settings and, that can use a lot of data.

Some cell phones also allow background refresh and updates for apps when on WiFi unless you turn that off in settings.

Often unexplained data use is a simply matter of changing some settings.

I very much doubt if it is unlimited. I expect they figure you can't use too much data just on your phone. If you tether the phone to your pc you may well find that you have quite a severe data cap, possibly 5 gig a month.

Probably like my cell, unlimited data so long as I only use it on the phone itself. Were I to tether it, I'd have zero data allowance and, it would cost me 10.00 per GB, minimum 5 GB purchase. No practical for daily internet use, some sites simply do not work well on a cell phone and, because I barely get one bar at one spot in my yard, I'd have to stand outside to even use it for internet at all.

Great for on the go for social media, looking for nearby businesses and such but not for home use.

You could probably use an amplifier and an external antenna.    I had a setup like that for my 3G wireless a few years ago.

Do you have Verizon service in your area?  Their 4G LTE Internet (Installed) comes with an external antenna, amplifier and WiFi router.  $120 for 30GB/Month.

No, our choices here are Sprint, which I have or, Straight Talk. No others even offer local numbers here. I'd have to get an out of state number (closest service are to me for Verizon, ATT, etc is in the next state.)

Thanks Old Labs, I think I'll give Glasswire a try too.  It looks very informative.

I've been using Networx for years to monitor my data use, and it's very handy.  It installs a little icon on my taskbar which displays my currently daily data use when I hover on it.  It also reports on my accumulated monthly data use.  It doesn't show which sites or activities have used the most data, however.  http://networx.en.softonic.com/  It's free, and it works very well for what it does.
