Very few programs are running on my desktop computer yet I am watching download data go through the roof.  Only thing I can think of is I received an update to windows this week.  Anyone have any ideas.  Over a Gig of data in 4 hours is crazy.

might as well get ready for this to happen every month, I ran out of data within 15mins after a fresh data reset with the Ethernet cable unplugged from the back of the modem.

Yea?  15 minutes?  That takes a faster connection than about 3 Google Fiber lines into your house.  On the other hand, did you see my cow jump over the moon?  really it did, and of course, you are expected to believe me.

How about describing your system a bit so we have something to ponder?

I agree, we need to know your OS and version of that OS as well as what other devices you have connected. Still that sounds as if it may be the Creator's Update for Windows 10, that thing is 5 GB. Afterwards, check all your settings and, set your connection to metered, the Creator's Update does enable that for Ethernet connections as well as WiFi connections.

It is not so much as rude comments but more so of how Excede masks the issues that lead to unsatisfactory product and service. Yes it might work in some larger markets but if are looking for a steady and reliable internet in rural areas, as I once was, do not get caught in the trap that Excede uses to make money using early termination fees. If you are not receiving the product then I do not feel I should be subjected to collections after I terminate for not getting what I paid for. I will be monitoring this site until the class action suit is brought against Excede. At that time I will be jumping aboard with both feet. #legalpirates

I and many thousands of other customers have steady and reliable internet.  The only reason I switched to Exede was to stream Netflix and Acorn and Funamation and VRV and Vudu and so on.  We have two Roku players on our TV's and stream as much as we want with our 150gig plan.  We never get close to our data limit.  Not sure what issues you are having, but the vast majority of customers are very happy they have Exede available to them.  It is obvious that one of your issues is you never read your contract before you signed up.  You can't have a class action lawsuit.  You signed that right away.  Next time, read the legal stuff before purchasing a product.

I have Windows 7 and received an update 10/11 to bring my OS up to current security standards.  The excessive data use appears to have stopped.  Thanks all for your comments.  I like Exede Wildblue and have nothing bad at all to say about them.

This is exactly what I am talking about. You consider yourself to be a champion. You are an instigator. Go back in your hole and play with your contract. Nobody wants to read your comments as you are degrading people. There will be action taken sooner or later. I signed a contract but did not receive the product. Shut your blowhole jerk

I agree with you that the customer/Exede relationship has it's problems (I think it's really bad, a class action suit attempt????). I was referring to the folks who post on here that don't really contribute to what I think this site is for.

I have found some very helpful information here and spent a tremendous amount of time and effort to control my data usage, to no avail. There are simply to many things that are out of my control.

However, I have come to the conclusion that my efforts are futile and am no longer willing to put that amount of time into it. Not withstanding the inappropriateness of some of the user's posts (I just don't see the need for that kind of rudeness to people you don't even know and choose not to expose myself to it any longer).
I, as a consumer just don't believe I should have to work this hard to get the appropriate service I am paying for. And, yes, that is a personal decision I make. After all, it is my money and I tend to spend it on what "I" consider the best value.

So I will just plod along, do my best to control my usage and deal with the low speed for the last few days of the month when I'm here (vacation home) until Exede can provide the value I expect or when another provider comes along that can provide me with a better value.

In the immortal words of Lawrence Welk: Adios, Au Revior, Aufweidersehn.... ;o)

I don't think that is due until the 17th, unless you are in the Windows Insider program.

Barry, I would say that is the Creator's update. It is pretty cool, adds the functionality of setting Ethernet connections to metered, makes a lot of other fixes and, that 3D paint it comes with is cool to play around with.

I hate huge updates like that but, this one, in my opinion, is worth it.

Yikes. Scary with three Windows 10 PCs in the house. I think I set Windows to share updates, but I guess (based on recent usage) one of two of them is different for my different computers.

During October, my three computers took the Fall major update for Windows 10, also referred to as the Creators update. As Bev said, the updates are 4.5 to 5 GB each. This can be a major impact on your data consumption.
