data usage

We have been with excede for several years and have never gone over monthly data usage until a couple months ago and now we are using all our data up in 2 weeks.  Nothing has changed except replaced our desk top computer.  We don't stream video unless it is short videos on facebook.  Not sure what to do, except look at other providers.  Any suggestions?

If it is a new computer you may want to read over some of the posts on here about windows 10 and some of the stuff that runs in the background using data.  You can also send exedelistens@viasat.com an email and they can give you a general break down of your usage to help you maybe pin point whats using it.  Also you might want to read over this article about data usage when it comes to video adds and stuff loading on web pages just from surfing the web.

Is your desktop computer running Windows 10? If so, try some of the suggestions in this post and see if that helps: https://community.exede.com/exede/topics/get-ready-for-windows-10.

I've also noticed an uptick in app updates for smart phones and if you have a few phones and tablets connected that may also be a reason for the increase in data usage. You can turn off automatic updates over WiFi and do the updates when you're connected to a public WiFi hot spot that isn't metered (i.e. Starbucks, etc...)

Another thing to do is to make sure you have an update to date antivirus client installed and run a full scan. Heavy data usage can be an indication of an infection.

Also, I'd recommend calling Exede customer support, they can give you a full breakdown of what type of usage is occurring (i.e. updates, videos, etc...). You can find their support number at  https://www.exede.com/contact-us-exede/.
