I did a simple easy to follow video showing some basic steps users on Limited Data Plans can use  to keep from going over their monthly data caps. You will need to be using a wireless connection for the Metered Connection Setting. Hopefully this will help fellow Exede/Wildblue Customers with better data management. Please, watch if you have been having data overages and want to see how to better manage usage: https://youtu.be/n6SIJXEPMqY

Go to Settings, then Network and Internet, then WiFi, Manage Known Networks, click on the network you use for Exede, then Properties, then scroll down to Metered Connection, and then turn on set as metered connection

This will only work for wireless connections, wired connections cannot be set to metered.

Thanks Beverly. Windows 10 isn't very easy to fine some settings. Then the anniversary came out this summer, and many things got moved around. It took me a while to fine that metered setting. Have a good holiday.

Sorry, if I didn't make it easier to follow in the video I posted. The post I made on the forum today should explain it a bit (I hope).

To set a metered connection in Windows 10, do like in the video in original post. You have to be on a wireless connection (router/wi-fi) and you can Left Click your Wireless Icon in right hand side of task bar; then Left click the Wireless Connection; then select your Router from the list (if there is more than one connection in your list) and select "properties" and  scroll down and you will see a toggle for "Metered".

Excellent tutorial that I believe has acquired some more capability since my understanding is, as of the latest "creator's" update, you can now set non wifi network connections to metered.

My understanding is that you can also permanently turn off Windows automatic updates by doing the following: start up windows; go to the start menu and open the "Run" box; in the Run box, type in "services.msc" to start up the Windows services manager;  in "services.msc" select the Windows automatic updates service and set its startup mode to "manual" and then never start that service.

Beyond that,  I would like to add the following links that give additional tips on how to keep win10 on a leash, and that also describe some problems and the solutions to those problems :

As xode0000 stated, with the Creator's Update you can also set desktop machines connected via ethernet to "metered". I have been doing this since the update came out and it works fine.

Hopefully, all this info will better help customers save on data. I think a lot of the complaints from new customers complaints on all their data being used in a day or two is caused by Windows and app updates. Those can gobble a TON of data. :(

I've had two different Win 10 machines get stuck on a big update, one last fall and one just recently. They would DL the update, try to install it, not be able to for some reason and start over with the DL. They did this three or four times I think and I'm not sure the most recent one ever did manage to finish the update. Luckily this wasn't on Exede for either incident.
